Airbnb Explained

I’m typing this post from an Airbnb apartment in Buenos Aires. Airbnb is the site I use to arrange lodging for the vast majority of my nights on the road. Whether I am coming to a city for four days or four months, it is the first place I look because:

  • Apartments have better amenities than hotels (kitchens, multiple bedrooms)
  • Apartments have better locations than hotels (residential areas and nightlife areas instead of business districts)
  • Apartments are cheaper than hotels

Right now, if you sign up for Airbnb through my referral link, you’ll get $25 off your first stay, and I’ll get $25 off my next stay. Feel free to leave your referral link in the comments.

Here is How Airbnb Works and Three Ways to Save Money on Airbnb.

PayPal Promo

PayPal is offering a $50 discount on stays of $200 or more. To receive the discount, you must:

  • Make a booking for $200 or more, excluding security deposits, cleaning fees, taxes and other fees;
  • Be a U.S. resident;
  • Have a valid Airbnb account;
  • Have a U.S. PayPal account in good standing (if your PayPal account is locked or restricted you will not be able to participate in this Offer);
  • Request an Eligible Booking on Airbnb and have the reservation confirmed by the Host before December 31, 2015 at 11:59 PM PT;
  • Enter promo code “MEETHALFWAY” at the time of the booking request (in the “Coupon code” field); and
  • Pay for the entire balance of the booking using PayPal as the sole payment method.

Check out the full terms and conditions below, which cast doubt on whether I am eligible for the promotion since my account has some PayPal referral credits, which I might be unable to combine with this offer.

Other Current Airbnb Promotions

American Express is offering many cardholders $50 off $100+ bookings made by December 31. If you book Airbnb a lot, you can use both on separate bookings.

You can always pay for Airbnb stays with a Barclaycard Arrival Plus™ World Elite MasterCard®  and then redeem Arrival miles to offset the cost of the stay.

The card comes with 40,000 bonus Arrival miles after spending $3,000 on purchases in the first 90 days. That’s enough for $400+ in free stays.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS of PayPal Offer

Offer to receive $50 off an Airbnb booking is valid for U.S. residents that make an Eligible Booking and pay exclusively with PayPal during the Offer Period. An “Eligible Booking” is a booking on Airbnb for $200 or more, excluding security deposits, cleaning fees, taxes and other fees. The “Offer Period” begins on November 9, 2015 at 6:00 a.m. PDT and ends on December 31, 2015 at 11:59 p.m. PDT, or until supplies last. To receive the $50 discount (the “Discount”), the person making the booking must:
• Be a U.S. resident;
• Have a valid Airbnb account;
• Have a U.S. PayPal account in good standing (if your PayPal account is locked or restricted you will not be able to participate in this Offer);
• Request an Eligible Booking on Airbnb and have the reservation confirmed by the Host during the Offer Period;
• Enter the applicable promo code at the time of the booking request (in the “Coupon code” field); and
• Pay for the entire balance of the booking using PayPal as the sole payment method.
The promo code is not exchangeable or redeemable for cash or credit, and may not be combined with any other Airbnb coupon, discount code or gift credit. Only one promo code per person. The promo code is for one-time use only and does not carry over. Determinations of eligibility will be made in Airbnb’s sole discretion. In the event that the Eligible Booking is cancelled or revised, no portion of the Discount will be refunded to the user. Airbnb reserves the right to any remedy, including disqualifying you from the Offer or cancelling your account or reservations, if, in our sole discretion, Airbnb suspects fraud, tampering, violations of Airbnb’s Terms of Service or technical errors.
