What do 110 strangers think of me? Now I know, since I checked my Uber Rider rating in the app. Here’s how:
1. Select the silhouette in a circle in the top left of the Uber home screen to bring up the menu.
2. Select “HELP.”
Select “I’d like to know my rating.”
5. Select “Submit.”
Your rating will appear. Mine is 4.8 stars out of 5.
I’m happy with 4.8. The rating is displayed when drivers are deciding whether to accept a ride, but I imagine most won’t reject you unless your rating is terrible. (Under 4 stars? Under 3?)
What’s your Uber rating?
More Info on Uber
Uber is an app on your smart phone on which you request a Black Car, taxi, taxi van, SUV, or uberX car to pick you up. (Not all options are available in all markets.) The in-app map shows you nearby cars and tells you how long you’ll have to wait. You can input your destination and get an estimated price, which varies by the service. I find uberX and taxis to be the cheapest.
Once you get dropped off, you rate your driver. Bad drivers are fired, so you are extremely likely to get a good driver.
All of my Uber Taxi, uberX, and Black Car Rides have been superb–clean car, on time pick up, friendly driver–except for one. One driver tried to scam me out of $1, and Uber refunded my $23 fare for the inconvenience. I haven’t tried the other Uber car options yet.
Let’s list the ways Uber is better than your local cab company:
- Easier and faster to order a ride. No calling in and waiting on hold.
- More accurate timetable given for pick up. I hate when the taxi operator tells me she’s sending the “next available” cab. How long will that be?
- You can get an estimate of the price in advance.
- Uber drivers are more likely to drive a clean, not smelly car in my experience.
- Your credit card is saved on file. No need to carry cash.
- There is zero tip on any Uber rides except Uber Taxi, and you can set your tip percentage for taxis on uber.com.
If you sign up for Uber now, we will each be given a $15 credit.

I still wish Uber would allow tipping. I love not carrying cash, so the overall application is great. But there are times I would like to leave an extra tip, and without cash, there’s no way to do that.
I think not allowing it is one thing that has endeared Uber to consumers more than Lyft. I prefer having an all-in negotiated rate like Uber has because I don’t see how drivers could really provide me better or worse service compared to the very good baseline of service that Uber demands.
@OakCliffTX Why would you want to pay more for a service that is a commodity? Does one driver provide more value than another? Why do you enjoy throwing your money down the drain via tips because one person smiles at you more? NO TIPS IS WHAT MAKES ME USE UBER. I would get rid of tips all together and increase the price of related goods.
