I tweeted this deal first from @MileValueAlerts. Follow @MileValueAlerts on Twitter and follow these directions to get a text message every time I tweet from that account. I tweet from @MileValueAlerts only a few times a month because it is designed to be used only for the best and most limited-time deals–like mistake fares–so that you aren’t bombarded by text messages.

$492 Roundtrip from New York to Singapore
These fares are on ITA Matrix (here’s why you want to search airfare on ITA Matrix) for $492 roundtrip for many dates from the end of September through December of this year. There are also a few roundtrips in March if you want to travel soon. Other departures are just tens of dollars more.
This calendar shows 10 day roundtrips between New York and Singapore.
Google Flights works well too (also shows a calendar of lowest fares by different trip lengths), and is often faster than ITA Matrix.
You can find that price on China Southern’s website.
Tip for when you’re searching–don’t put a space between New and York, write it “NewYork”, or else the search engine will give you an error.
The fares are only 454 euros ($485) roundtrip on momondo.com if you want to save $24 at the expense of potentially worse customer service in case of needing a change or cancellation.
Why Singapore?
Singapore is a tropical island so it has pleasantly hot weather all year (70s and 80s). An island nation means tons of seafood and beaches. You can also get your fair share of iconic architecture, upbeat night life, and crazy urban green spaces like the Gardens by the Bay in the city.
Back in 2015, CNN Travel wrote 50 Reasons Why Singapore Is the World’s Greatest City if you want more inspiration.
Mileage Earning
Here’s how the process of crediting to a partner works. ITA Matrix lists the fare class as K.
Delta lists K as earning 75% of the distance flown on its earning chart for China Southern, a SkyTeam member. JFK to CAN to SIN is 9,641 miles (you can check that on gcmap.com, so you’d earn 7,230 redeemable miles.
Baggage Allowance
You get a free personal item, free carry on, and one free checked bag up to 50 pounds each included in the ticket price.
Best Way to Buy the Ticket
You should buy this ticket with he Barclaycard Arrival Plus. The card comes with 50,000 Arrival miles after spending $3,000 on the card in the first three months. Arrival miles can be redeemed for 1 cent each toward any travel expense. Here is How to Redeem Arrival Miles.
With the Arrival Plus, you don’t even have to wait to meet the minimum spending requirement before you spend the miles. Open an Arrival Plus, put whatever revenue tickets on the card you want now to help you meet the minimum spending requirement, and then redeem Arrival miles within 120 days to offset the charges.
Don’t have the Arrival Plus card? Put it on whatever card you have travel statement credits for, like the Sapphire Reserve or Citi Prestige. Don’t have any travel statements credits to earn? Check out the Best Credit Card to Buy Airfare.

best way to buy airfare is either–
amex platinum 5 x on airfare =
chase sapphire 3 x on airfare = 4.5 towards buying future airfare citi prestige 3 x on airfare = 4.8 towards aa flight – 3.99 on others while Barclays only gets 2.0 towards buying airfare
Barclays is not the best card to use –
always great stuff on here and 1 of my favorite blogs – just disagree on best card to use for airfare – kept up the great work
If you have enough Arrival miles to redeem on the flight, or a statement credit, this flight can be free. To me, nothing beats free. You have to buy the flight on the card you earn Arrival miles with or have a statement credit with in order to redeem them.
Agree with your other card suggestions that are also in our Best Credit Card to Buy Airfare post.
Glad you enjoy the blog!
