American Express Small Business Saturday is back the Saturday after Thanksgiving–November 29, 2014. You can register your American Express cards now.

This year, you can get up to three $10 statement credits per American Express card. Since I have five American Express cards, I could get $150 in statement credits.

You can register all of your American Express cards including those issued by other banks (like the Citi AAdvantage American Express) except for corporate cards and prepaid cards.

For the first time, you can even register your Bluebird or Serve.

How the Promotion Works

The first three charges of $10+ on Saturday November 29 on registered cards at qualifying small businesses will result in $10 statement credits.

Note: a $5 charge does not result in a $5 statement credit.

That means you can earn $30 per registered card this year, which is the most generous Small Business Saturday we’ve seen.

What Counts as a Small Business

Every business on this map definitely counts.

Some locations not on the map end up counting too.

Transactions at gas stations do not count, even if they appear on the map.

How I’ve Used the Promo in the Past

In the past, I’ve taken all my AMEXes to my favorite Thai restaurants and bought $25 gift certificates for future visits.

That maximized the $25 statement credits in past years, and small restaurants are only too happy to lock in future business with a gift certificate.

This year, I’m not so sure I would rush off to buy three $10 gift certificates per AMEX because the restaurants might not like swipe fees just to sell a $10 gift certificate.
