SPG & Uber Partnership Ending Soon: Optimizing Earnings w/Ride Share Apps

Starwood Preferred Guest and Uber have had an ongoing relationship allowing SPG members to earn SPG points by tying their SPG and Uber accounts together. As of now, you can earn 1 SPG point per $2 spent on Uber for nothing other than linking your accounts. You can also earn SPG points for using Ubers when staying at SPG hotels at an elevated rate of 2 points per dollar spent.

New Uber Card is Not Very Uber-y (But Gives Major Cash Back!)

Barclaycard is teaming up with Uber to issue a credit card called the Uber Visa Card. While technically co-branded with the ride share company, there are almost no Uber related benefits, which is kind of confusing. Nevertheless this card, which will earn rewards in the form of cash back, has impressive cash back rates that (in most ways) beat other cash back cards.

You can't apply for the Uber Visa quite yet.

Interview With an Uber Turned Lyft Driver + $50 in Free Lyft Credit

A month ago I wrote about ridesharing apps Uber and Lyft. If you aren't familiar with Lyft yet, it is very similar to Uber in that it is a mobile application that connects people in need of rides to drivers. Both are somewhat of a substitute for your standard taxi service.

I have a friend named Cate that used to drive for Uber, and recently made the switch to driving for Lyft.

Get Your Uber Rating Instantly

What do 110 strangers think of me? Now I know, since I checked my Uber Rider rating in the app. Here's how:

1. Select the silhouette in a circle in the top left of the Uber home screen to bring up the menu.

2. Select "HELP."

3. Select "Account."

Select "I'd like to know my rating."

5. Select "Submit."

Your rating will appear. Mine is 4.8 stars out of 5.

I'm happy with 4.8. The rating is displayed when drivers are deciding whether to accept a ride, but I imagine most won't reject you unless your rating is terrible.

Uber Counts as a 3x Category for Citi ThankYou Premier

The Citi ThankYou® Premier Card changed its 3x categories to gas and travel on April 19. I covered just how broad those categories are in this post at the time.

Gas and travel purchases that earn 3 ThankYou Points per dollar include:

airlines
hotels
car rental agencies
travel agencies
gas stations
commuter transportation
taxi/limousines
passenger railways
cruise lines
bridge and road tolls
parking lots/garages
campgrounds and trailer parks
time shares
bus lines
motor home/RV Rental and boat rentals

At the time of the change, I hoped that Uber fell into the taxi/limousines category.
