Delta had already released its 2015 award chart for travel beginning in the United States (exlcuding Hawaii) and Canada, and now Delta has released SkyMiles Award Charts for 2015 from all other parts of the world.
The current award chart controls for awards BOOKED in 2014, and the 2015 chart for awards BOOKED in 2015, regardless of when the flights are flown.
In addition to new award charts, we will see two major rule changes on Delta awards for awards booked January 1, 2015 or later:
- Delta will allow one way awards for half the price of roundtrips
- Delta will not allow stopovers on awards
The award charts reflect only minor changes from the 2014 chart, so don’t expect to find a big devaluation.
I scoured the new charts looking for creative, cheap awards, and I found a few.
- What are the best deals on the new 2015 SkyMiles charts?
American Airlines and United both have some real gems on their award charts for awards between far-flung regions (like Central America to South America or Japan to Oceania.) I love finding these deals because they can be used for BIG trips around the world that don’t cost very many miles.
- Six Under-Priced Awards on the United Airlines Chart
- Five Under-Priced Awards on the American Airlines Chart
Delta’s chart lags far behind the American and United charts. There are awards you wouldn’t think would be very expensive, like the Indian Subcontinent to Southeast Asia, because the distances involved are short. But Delta actually will charge 35,000 miles one way in economy next year such an award.
However there are a few deals on the Delta chart, especially within North Asia. These are one way economy award prices:
In some cases, like within Korea, booking Business Class is as little as 1,000 SkyMiles more:
Needless to say, I’ll be using my United and American miles more than my Delta miles for cheap awards between far-flung regions.
I’ll use my Delta miles mostly between the United States and other regions. Here are the 5 Best Products to Book One Way with SkyMiles that I’m looking forward to booking, starting January 1, 2015.
Just getting started in the world of points and miles? The Chase Sapphire Preferred is the best card for you to start with.
With a bonus of 60,000 points after $4,000 spend in the first 3 months, 5x points on travel booked through the Chase Travel℠ and 3x points on restaurants, streaming services, and online groceries (excluding Target, Walmart, and wholesale clubs), this card truly cannot be beat for getting started!

so basically AA routing rules but with higher prices
The big question is all about availability in the different Levels. Knowing Delta, there will be 1 seat available somewhere on it’s network on some date in the year – at the lowest levels…That’s just so they don’t get caught doing ‘False Advertising’…
DL, still a POS for making low level award seats available. So sad.
It claims it will release more in 2015. We shall see.
Those KR-JP flights have been that price for years. Inter-Korea as well.
It’s the best way to get KR-JP outside of Avios, which are very difficult to find space on the limited JAL flights.
