Premium travel reward credit cards offer a host of perks, from complimentary lounge access to hotel benefits.

One type of perk they offer is an annual travel statement credit. This applies to purchases that code as travel, although card issuers are free to define what counts as travel. Similarly, this type of credit is sometimes exclusively applied to travel purchased via the card issuer’s own online travel portal.

Many premium cards also offer travel-related statement credits, such as TSA PreCheck® and Global Entry statement credits, as well as CLEAR® Plus membership statement credits for accelerated security processes in airports.

Let’s look at the top cards that offer annual travel statement credits, as well as travel-related statement credits.

Best Cards with Annual Travel Statement Credits

U.S. Bank Altitude® Reserve Visa Infinite® Card

The U.S. Bank Altitude Reserve Visa Infinite Card offers an annual statement credit of $325 for eligible travel purchases, as well as dining, takeout and restaurant delivery purchases. Purchases must be made directly with the merchant to qualify.

The credit is applied two to three days after the purchase is made.

Additionally, the card offers a $100 TSA PreCheck® or Global Entry credit every four years.

This generous statement credit helps in justifying the $400 annual fee. If you combine this with other benefits, such as complimentary Priority Pass Select membership, worth $469, then you’ll offset the annual fee by $394.

This card also earns 3X points on mobile wallet spending, an uncommon bonus spending category that makes this card a valuable one to add to your wallet.

Here’s what the U.S. Bank Altitude Reserve Visa Infinite Card offers:

  • 5X points on prepaid hotels and car rentals booked through the Altitude Rewards Center
  • 3X points on eligible travel purchases and mobile wallet spending on Apple Pay®, Google Pay™ and Samsung Pay
  • 1X points on all other eligible purchases
  • $325 in annual credits for eligible travel purchases and dining, takeout and restaurant delivery purchases
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • Complimentary Priority Pass Select membership, giving you eight free annual visits
  • Access to benefits of the Visa Infinite® Luxury Hotel Collection
  • $100 TSA PreCheck or Global Entry credit, every four years

U.S. Bank points can be redeemed at 1.5 cents per point when you purchase travel via the U.S. Bank online portal. If you choose to redeem points in this way, your bonus category spending rates effectively jump to 7.5X points on prepaid hotels and car rentals booked through the Altitude Rewards Center, 4.5X points on eligible travel and mobile wallet purchases, and 1.5X points on everything else.

The only drawback of U.S. Bank points is that you’re unable to transfer them to transfer partners such as airlines and hotels.

To be eligible for the airline incidental credit, the primary cardholder or authorized user must select a qualifying airline via their American Express online account before paying the charges. • Travel and purchase protections
  • Access to Visa Signature® Luxury Hotel Collection benefits

The unique part of this card is the Preferred Rewards program, which enables members to earn between 25% to 75% more points per purchase.

To become a Preferred Rewards member, you’ll need to open a Bank of America checking account, as well as have a three-month average combined balance of $20,000 across your Bank of America deposit and/or Merrill investment accounts.

If you can manage this, you’ll accelerate your point earning on travel, dining and other eligible purchases.

Bank of America® Premium Rewards® Elite Credit Card

The total value of statement credits amounts to $1,519, making the annual fee of $695 (see rates and fees) look rather small. However, even the $200 airline incidental fee statement credit plus access to the American Express Global Lounge Collection, if used frequently, will offset the cost of the annual fee on its own.

The Business Platinum card is heavyweight in terms of return value and is a great choice for offsetting the costs of travel- and business-related purchases.
