U.S. Bank isn’t typically the first issuer that credit enthusiasts think of. However, in the past several years, U.S. Bank has really beefed up its lineup to try to compete with larger credit card issuers with lucrative rewards programs such as Chase or American Express. In 2017, U.S. Bank began issuing the U.S. Bank Altitude Reserve Visa Infinite Card, their $400 annual fee premium travel card with amazing perks like airport lounge access, hundreds of dollars in statement credits and impressive spending bonuses.

Then, in February 2023, U.S. Bank released the U.S. Bank Business AltitudeTM Connect World Elite Mastercard®, bringing the total number of currently available U.S. Bank business credit cards to four. Here are all of the U.S. Bank business cards that you can apply for today:

All four of these business cards have annual fees below $100, making U.S. Bank a solid option for small business owners who prefer credit cards with low or zero annual fees.

It’s worth mentioning that U.S. Bank also issues the SKYPASS Visa Signature® Business Card, Korean Air’s $99-annual-fee branded card. However, for the purposes of this article, we’re only going to focus on the four U.S. Bank-branded cards.

When comparing these four credit cards, it’s hard to pick a clear-cut winner among them and which of these cards is best for you and your business is really going to depend on your spending habits and preferences. One card earns Altitude Rewards points, one card earns elevated cashback rewards in fixed spending categories, one card earns 2% cash back in whichever two categories you spend the most in and the other card offers a special intro period on purchases and balance transfers.

As you can see, each of these four cards could potentially be the best fit for your wallet depending on what your needs are. So, in this article, we’re going to look at the comparative advantages (and disadvantages) of each of these cards to help you determine which one is right for you.

U.S. Bank Business Credit Card Basics

All U.S. Bank business credit cards are only available to business owners. However, the definition of a business owner is probably wider than you’d think. In fact, you may be able to qualify for a business credit card even if you don’t think of yourself as a small business owner.

No matter what legal business structure your money-making enterprise falls under (whether it’s a partnership, corporation, LLC, LLP or sole proprietorship), you can still apply for a business credit card. Credit card issuers will examine your credit history and score to determine your eligibility.

A Complete Guide to Every U.S. Bank Business Credit Card

If you’re unsure whether or not you can qualify, then you probably fall into the category of sole proprietor. However, even if you’re self-employed, a freelancer or a gig economy worker, you can qualify for a business credit card.

All U.S. Bank business credit cards come with zero fraud liability protection, which protects your business from being responsible for unauthorized purchases made on your card.

All four of these cards also allow you to add employee cards at no additional cost so your employees can make purchases and even earn rewards for your business. You can even control where, when and how your employees use their credit cards by setting card controls by time, place and/or dollar amount.

Side-by-Side Comparison

All four U.S. Bank business credit cards are very different in the way that they earn rewards, the other perks they offer, their fees and more. The Business Altitude Connect card is the only business credit card that earns Altitude Rewards points, both the Business Triple Cash Rewards card and the Business Leverage card earn rewards in the form of cash back and the Business Platinum card doesn’t earn any rewards at all.

To determine which of these cards is the best for your business, you’ll need to look at your expenses from past years and calculate which rewards-earning structure will be the most lucrative for you. Or, if you have a big purchase to finance or a large credit balance to transfer, then you may want to consider going with the Business Platinum card.

To make assessing these cards a little easier, we’ve listed each of these four cards and their respective features below.

As you can see, these four cards are all very different and have very unique advantages and drawbacks. So, to better understand how these cards work, we’ll discuss each of them individually.

U.S. Bank Business AltitudeTM Connect World Elite Mastercard®

The U.S. Bank Business AltitudeTM Connect World Elite Mastercard® is the only U.S. Bank business card that earns Altitude Rewards points. These points can be used to book travel via the Altitude Rewards Center, redeemed for cash back, used to buy gift cards, used to purchase merchandise and more.

However, unlike other credit card rewards programs, U.S. Bank Altitude Rewards doesn’t have any transfer partners at the current time. So, Altitude Rewards points are worth a maximum of 1 cent apiece with the U.S. Business AltitudeTM Connect card, meaning they’re no more valuable than cash back. This is a major disadvantage of the Altitude family of cards compared to points-earning cards from other issuers that give you access to transfer partners, allowing you to find redemptions that provide outsized value.

Altitude Rewards Center

Nevertheless, the U.S. Bank Business AltitudeTM Connect card still earns some solid spending bonuses, particularly when it comes to booking travel through the Altitude Rewards Center and on gas and EV charging. Here are the spending bonuses offered by the Business Altitude Connect card:

  • 5X points on hotel and car rentals booked directly through the Altitude Rewards Center
  • 4X points on travel, including airfare, hotels, gas and EV charging (on up to $150,000 in combined spending per year)
  • 2X points on dining, takeout, restaurant delivery and cell phone services
  • 1X points on all other purchases

The U.S. Bank Business AltitudeTM Connect card has a $0 intro annual fee and then charges $955 annually every year after that. For such a low annual fee, the spending bonuses offered by this card are rather impressive, even if Altitude points can’t be used with transfer partners. In particular, the ability to earn 4X points at the gas pump as well as 2X points at restaurants and with cell phone providers makes it easy to rack up points on your everyday expenses.

This card also comes with a Priority Pass Select membership that includes four complimentary visits to Priority Pass lounges per membership year. This is an extremely impressive benefit for a card with such a low annual fee. In fact, if you want to get into Priority Pass lounges, signing up for the Business Altitude Connect card (or the personal version of the card) is the cheapest way to do so.

Priority Pass lounges

It’s important to note that any guests you bring into the lounge with you will count toward your total of four complimentary visits per year. So, if you and two guests enter a Priority Pass lounge together, that will count as three visits toward your total of four per year.

Another useful feature of the U.S. Bank Business AltitudeTM Connect card is that, if you have a personal card from the U.S. Bank Altitude family, you can transfer points between your business card and your personal card. That means you can pool all of your points from both cards in one account and purchase redemptions even sooner.

The Business Altitude Connect card doesn’t charge any foreign transaction fees.

U.S. Bank Business Leverage® Visa Signature® Card

If you’d prefer a business credit card that earns cash back over one that earns Altitude points, then you may want to consider the U.S. Bank Business Leverage® Visa Signature® Card. This card has a $0 intro annual fee and then charges $95 annually every year after.

This card offers customized cashback rewards to help you earn the best rewards in the categories where you spend the most. Here are the spending bonuses offered by the U.S. Bank Business Leverage® card:

  • 5% cash back on hotels and car rentals booked directly through the Travel Rewards Center
  • 2% cash back in the top two categories where you spend the most each month automatically
  • 1% cash back on all other purchases

There are currently 48 different eligible categories that can earn 2% with this card. So, whatever you spend the most money on in a month, there’s a pretty high chance that it will qualify to earn 2% cash back. Plus, if you run a business that spends a lot of money in uncommon categories (that most other cards don’t reward), then the U.S. Bank Business Leverage® might be the best option out there for you.

For instance, some of the categories that are eligible to earn the 2% cashback bonus include pet supply stores, plumbing and HVAC suppliers, publishers and printers, veterinarians and automotive parts stores. If the top spending category for your business is veterinarian bills, for example, then the Business Leverage card may be your best option.

This card also gives you the option to add employee cards at no additional cost. You can also set customizable spending rules for each card, allowing you to control where, when and how your employees spend.

The Business Leverage card doesn’t charge any foreign transaction fees.

U.S. Bank Business Platinum Card

The U.S. Bank Business Platinum Card has no annual fee and offers no spending bonuses. The only advantage that this card offers is that there’s an intro period for purchases and balance transfers.

The only reasons why you may want to consider signing up for the U.S Bank Business Platinum card are if you need to make a large balance transfer or if you need to finance a large purchase with your new credit card.

However, there are cards on the market that offer even longer intro periods and there are also cards with equally long intro periods that offer rewards. For instance, the Wells Fargo Reflect® Card has a longer intro period on purchases and balance transfers. The Reflect card doesn’t offer rewards though.

On the other hand, the Citi® Double Cash Card offers an intro period on balance transfers only and it also offers 2% cash back on every purchase (1% cash back when you make the purchase and another 1% cash back when you pay it off).

The U.S. Bank Business Platinum Card charges a foreign transaction fee of 3%.

All in all, there’s no reason that you should sign up for the U.S. Bank Business Platinum card as there are other cards out there that outcompete it in every way.

U.S. Bank Triple Cash Rewards Visa® Business Card

The U.S. Bank Triple Cash Rewards Visa® Business Card is an impressive cashback card with no annual fee. This card offers the following cashback rewards:

  • 5% cash back on hotels and car rentals booked directly through the Travel Rewards Center
  • 3% cash back at gas and EV charging stations, office supply stores, cell phone service providers and restaurants
  • 1% cash back on all other purchases

The above cashback rewards are pretty impressive for a card that doesn’t charge an annual fee, particularly if you spend a large portion of your expenses in one of the 3% categories.

However, one of the best aspects of the U.S. Bank Triple Cash Rewards Visa Business Card is that it offers a $100 annual statement credit for recurring software subscriptions such as FreshBooks or QuickBooks. Considering this card doesn’t charge an annual fee, if you currently pay for one of these software subscriptions for your business, signing up for this card is pretty much a no-brainer.

On top of that, the Triple Cash Business card also offers an intro period on purchases and balance transfers. So, if you want to make a large purchase or balance transfer, this is a great card for you. Plus, you’ll earn some solid cashback rewards while doing so.

The Bottom Line

While U.S. Bank often gets glanced over by credit card enthusiasts in favor of larger issuers like Chase or American Express, this issuer has some unique offerings in the world of business credit cards that are worth paying attention to.

First of all, the Triple Cash Business card is one of the best no-annual-fee business cards out there. It offers 5% cash back on hotels and rental cars booked through the U.S. Bank Travel Rewards Center, 3% cash back at gas and EV charging stations, office supply stores, cell phone service providers and restaurants and 1% cash back on everything else. You’ll also receive $100 in annual statement credits towards recurring software subscriptions like FreshBooks or QuickBooks. Plus, it has an intro period. These are phenomenal benefits for a card that doesn’t charge an annual fee.

The Business Altitude Connect card is also a great offering, particularly for those who want to access Priority Pass lounges at a low cost. This card has a $0 intro annual fee and then $95 for every year after that. You’ll also earn 5X points on hotels and rental cars booked through the Altitude Rewards Center, 4X points on travel, including airfare, hotels, gas and EV charging (on up to $150,000 in combined spending per year), 2X points on dining, takeout, restaurant delivery and cell phone services and 1X point on everything else. Unfortunately, Altitude points can’t be redeemed with transfer partners, which means they’re worth a maximum of 1 cent apiece.

The Business Platinum card probably isn’t worth getting because it doesn’t offer any rewards. While it does offer an intro period, there are other cards out there with similar intro offers that do offer rewards.

The Business Leverage card also probably isn’t the best option for most businesses. While this card offers 2% cash back in your top two spending categories each month, that comes with a normal annual fee of $95. There are other cards out there with similar spending bonuses that don’t charge an annual fee, such as the Bank of America Business Advantage Customized Cash Rewards Credit Card.

So, while not every U.S. Bank business credit card is worth your time, it’s at least worth considering the options that this issuer offers before signing up for your next business credit card. Some of these credit cards might offer the best spending bonuses for your business expenses or fill the gaps in spending bonuses that your other cards don’t cover.
