Yesterday I received the following email from Barclays about a promotion on my Barclaycard AAdvantage Red World Elite Mastercard…
You can earn 10,000 American Airlines miles for meeting a $2,250 spending requirement over the months of May, June, and July. That’s kind of like earning 5x on everyday spending (12,250 miles earned total / $2,250 = 5.44)
Granted, it’s 5x on American Airlines miles which we value a little lower than typical legacy carrier miles due to lack of SAAver level award space. We value American Airlines miles at 1.5 cents each. You’ll earn 12,250 miles total (by our valuation worth $183.75) for $2,250 of spending (at least 2,250 American Airlines miles for non-bonused spend + 10,000 mile bonus) which is an 8.2% return. Not too shabby.
Other Current Targeted Offers From Barclaycard
Doctor of Credit wrote about some other targeted offers Barclays has sent out to select customers recently, along with the offer for the Aviator card, like:
- $50 bonus for spending $2,250 total over the next three months on the CashForward card ($750 each month)
- 10,000 JetBlue point bonus for spending $2,250 total over the next three months on the JetBlue Plus card ($750 each month)
Bottom Line
All of you Barclaycard customers, check your inbox for a targeted offer. All of these promotions offer a solid return on spending. You don’t have to opt in to any offer–if you received an email, all you need to do is meet the monthly spending requirement on your card and after the third month you should receive your bonus.
Usually these offers show up when your annual fee approaches.
Was that the scenario for you too?
That is what I’ve heard but no, I’m not approaching an annual fee. Just opened the card a few months ago.
