Through July 12, 2017 (tomorrow) at 11:59 PM ET, you can book roundtrips within the United States (on select routes) for travel September 6 through October 31, 2017 for only 20,000 Delta miles.
Sale Routes
Delta states that the sale applies to award flights with the following origins/destinations:
- Washington, DC
- Jackson, WY
- Bozeman, MT
- Idaho Falls, ID
- Reno, NV
- Phoenix, AZ
- Knoxville, TN
- Philadelphia, PA
- Boston, MA
- Salt Lake City, UT
- Rapid City, SD
- Las Vegas, NV
- St. Louis, MS
- San Antonio, TX
- Buffalo, NY
- Sacramento, CA
Flights don’t need to be direct. I found 20k roundtrip deals with one or multiple connections, like this one between Buffalo and Jackson Hole…
The Discount
While Delta doesn’t publish award charts anymore, we know from charts maintained by people us online (Renes Points has a series of spreadsheets) that the lowest level domestic award prices vary depending on the distance flown, and while I didn’t check all by hand, my educated guess is that many (but not all, watch out!) of the routes on sale are on average 12.5k one way at the lowest award price level (that’s also the standard price in American Airlines or United miles for the longest distance domestic flights).
20k miles roundtrip is a 20% discount off of a 25k price. That’s a big discount, and a good price (especially if you value Delta miles less than other miles you might use for domestic awards, which you probably do).
Award Space
I searched a few routes to show what availability in Delta economy looks like during the travel dates of the sale. Most of my searches yielded plenty of 20k roundtrip awards. All the calendars below are for one traveler, roundtrip, with flexible travel dates displayed.
Baltimore <> Las Vegas
Boston <> Phoenix
Atlanta <> Sacramento
Atlanta wasn’t one of the cities listed as a discounted origin/destination, but I figured it would be worth a search since it’s a huge Delta hub. Turned out that there were 20k roundtrips available from Atlanta as well.
To me that means it would be worth a search for whatever your city pair is if you’re planning a domestic trip this September or October.
Blackout Days
The award sale does not apply to the following origins/destinations and travel dates:
- Idaho Falls to US48/AK: September 29 – October 3, 2017
- Phoenix, Boston to US48/AK: October 5 – 9, 2017
- US48/AK to Boston, Idaho Falls, Phoenix: October 5 – 9, 2017
- US48/AK to Phoenix: October 11 – 16, 2017

Bottom Line
Today and Wednesday only (through 11:59 PM ET July 12) you can book Delta domestic awards with up to a 20% discount. Your travel dates must be between September 6 and October 31, 2017. That means your trip must be completed by the end of October–you couldn’t start the award the end of October and end it in November, for example.
If you have a stash of Delta miles, these kind of flash sales are exactly what they’re good for.
