This week I got an email from US Airways offering “An exclusive offer just for [me]:”
The offer was a targeted offer to buy up to 50,000 US Airways miles and get a 100% bonus in miles. That means I can obtain 100,000 US Airways miles for $1,881 or 1.88 cents each.
Thanks to readers Barry, O.H., Trevor, and Ying for forwarding me their 100% bonus offers too. Please forward me any exciting new deals you’re offered!
This deal is very common. Seemingly every other month, US Airways is selling miles to everyone or a targeted group with a 100% bonus that gets you the miles for 1.88 cents each.
Is it a good deal? That depends on how you’ll use the miles. Bill covered the deal in detail and analyzed all angles in US Airways 100% Buy Miles Promotion, and I have nothing to add.
I suggest everyone read US Airways 100% Buy Miles Promotion. I also suggest that everyone considering getting a new credit card consider the US Airways Premier World MasterCard® with 30,000 US Airways miles after first purchase.
- Earn up to 40,000 bonus miles with qualifying transactions
- Exclusive: Book award flights for 5,000 fewer miles – award travel starts at just 20,000 miles for cardmembers
- Zone 2 boarding on all US Airways flights
- Earn 2 miles per $1 on US Airways purchases
- Earn 1 mile per $1 on purchases everywhere else
- Annual companion certificate good for up to 2 companion tickets at $99 each, plus taxes and fees
- First Class check-in
- Please see terms and conditions for complete details

I expect the US Airways card to disappear very soon as the US Airways and American Airlines merger progresses, so don’t miss out on the 30k miles that can be redeemed on the awesome US Airways chart or would presumably be converted to American Airlines miles in the merger.
Just getting started in the world of points and miles? The Chase Sapphire Preferred is the best card for you to start with.

I’ve been waiting for this promotion to target a South East Asian sweet spot, for my winter vacations. But I’m not targeted .
Unfortunately, this could be my last chance to redeem this award (US-American merger, or chart devaluation) :(.

I also got this offer last week. I was so excited and ready to buy 50,000 points + 50,000 bonus to round up my account of 240,000 points for 4 economy RT tickets to SE Asia (from Central America/Mexico/Carribean routing). However, I ‘m debating to go to SE Asia either summer of 2014 or 2015. Since this is only target offer, if I take advantage on this offer and save these points for summer 2015, but I’m worried about the merge of US airway-AA that will effect my plan and may cost more points to SE Asia with the new award chart. Please advice what I should do : buy or wait for the next opportunity? Thanks.

If you will not use the miles immediately, wait.

[…] This deal has been run numerous times in the past, and is now downright ordinary. US Airways promoted the same 100% bonus to targeted customers back in November. Scott wrote up that deal in this post, 100% Buy or Gift Miles Promotion on US Airways=1.88 Cents Dividend Miles. […]
