- Jet Airways is releasing 4+ economy and Business Class award seats per flight from Toronto to Amsterdam all year.
- The flights can be booked with American Airlines and Delta miles.
- Connections from the US to Toronto and Amsterdam to the rest of the Europe are easy and free.
Jet Airways, an Indian carrier, recently revamped its route network, so its only North American flight is Toronto to Amsterdam, with connections from there to India.
Jet Airways is a partner of American Airlines and Delta miles, and both types of miles can be used to book Jet Airways award space, which is searchable at delta.com. American Airlines miles can book the same award space searched on delta.com.
American Airlines charges:
- 30,000 miles one way in economy from the USA to Europe and connections in Canada are fine
- 57,500 miles one way in Business from the USA to Europe and connections in Canada are fine
Delta charges:
- 30,000 miles one way in economy from the USA to Europe and connections in Canada are fine
- 70,000 miles one way in Business from the USA to Europe and connections in Canada are fine
The Award Space
I searched delta.com for award space from Toronto to Amsterdam and Amsterdam to Toronto to isolate the direct award space, although as I mentioned, you can book from your home airport to anywhere in Europe for the same number of miles. Any Jet Airways award space found on delta.com is bookable with American Airlines by calling AA.
This calendar shows economy award space for four people from Toronto to Amsterdam on 35 consecutive days in May and June. Many of the days also have award space for more than four people.
This calendar shows Business award space for four people from Toronto to Amsterdam on 35 consecutive days from July to September.
Other times of the year have award space that’s nearly as good like February (last minute!)…
…and May and June. Some days even have more than four award seats. This is a search for six award seats that picks up two days with award space at the height of summer.
Award space is the same in reverse. Here is an award chart showing award space for four people in Business Class from Toronto to Amsterdam on 31/35 days.
Connections
If you don’t live in Toronto or don’t want to go to Amsterdam, no problem!
Both Delta and American awards allow awards between the US and Europe to transit Canada and free connections to anywhere in Europe.
American flies from all of its hubs to Toronto. If you can find MileSAAver award space in economy on aa.com on any of these flights (or any flights from your home airport), you can add them for free to Jet Airways economy or Business Class award space.
And you can add MileSAAver First Class award space to Jet Airways Business Class space.
Similarly Delta flies from its hubs to Toronto.
If you find Level 1 award space on delta.com on Delta flights to Toronto, you can add it to the Jet Airways award space. Of course, Delta eliminated its award charts a few years back, so it won’t tell you what its Level 1 award space is (it’s this, it’s this!). The easiest thing to do is just to search from your home town to Amsterdam on delta.com, and if a combination of Delta and Jet Airways flights cost 30,000 miles in economy or 70,000 miles in Business, you’re good to go.
If you use American Airlines miles for this deal, you can connect in Amsterdam to British Airways (London), Finnair (Helsinki), and Iberia (Madrid) award space for zero extra miles. You can connect beyond those places of course, but no you’d be getting into quite a large number of flights for a simple trip to Europe.
If you use Delta miles, you have tons more options for connections because Delta partners with KLM, which has its hub in Amsterdam and flies to these European destinations.
Jet Airways Business Class
I’ve never flown it, but it’s a flat bed herringbone pattern that should make sleep easy.
You can read more about it here.
Booking the Awards
To book with American Airlines miles:
- Find AA award space to Toronto on aa.com
- Find Jet Airways award space to Amsterdam on delta.com
- Find British Airways (aa.com), Finnair (aa.com), or Iberia (ba.com) award space on the appropriate site
- Call 800-882-8880 to book the award space you pieced together. Make sure there is no phone booking fee charged since you can’t book Jet Airways on aa.com.
- You cannot have any stopovers (max layover 24 hours), but you can book one way or a roundtrip with up to two open jaws.
To book with Delta miles:
- Find and book on delta.com.
- You cannot have any stopovers (max layover 24 hours), but you can book one way or a roundtrip with up to two open jaws.
- If you are getting a pricing error, you probably cannot get a human to help you. No award chart means there are no pricing errors, and the computer is king.
Getting the Miles
This is where booking with American Airlines miles becomes an even better deal than the fact that it is cheaper.
For a limited time, the Citi /AAdvantage Platinum Select MasterCard and the CitiBusiness / AAdvantage Platinum Select World MasterCard are both offering 50k bonus miles for spending $3,000 on each card within three months of opening it. The new Barclaycard AAdvantage Aviator Red World Elite MasterCard is offering 40k bonus American Airlines miles after just one purchase and paying the annual fee of $95.
You can sign up for all three in the same nine day period (you can be approved for no more than one Citi card in an eight day period) and earn at least 146k American Airlines miles within three months after meeting the bonus requirements.
Credit card links have been removed from posts and added to the menu bar at the top of every page of MileValue under the heading Top Travel Credit Cards.
That’s enough for a roundtrip in Business Class (115k miles) with enough left over for a later economy trip to Central America (25k off peak.)
