As I was scanning this post this morning, I came across something that I wasn’t aware of re: Barclays’ US Airways Card. I haven’t been in the churn game long enough to have been able to take advantage of the cards that used to be truly churnable. I understand how you can close accounts, wait some amount of time and be eligible for a bonus again. But can you explain how you can get the same card again without even closing the current account? Do you use all the same personal info (I assume so)? Just don’t want to set off any alarm bells when I re-apply… 🙂
Just apply for the card again with all the same and true information.
I don’t know about the US Airways card, I tried to apply for it while already having one and they declined, said you can only have one card of the type with them. MMsecrets had a similar result a few months back.
Also, there’s reports of Starwood 30k bonuses coming back tomorrow, I’m getting two of those for sure.
I just got my second one a few weeks ago. You’ll be declined, and you’ll call an agent, then it’s up to his mood and your believability.
Haha, sounds like all the ones I called had a bad mood, I tried back 3 times to no avail.
I also have two us airways cards in my possession for a total 80K sign-up bonus. I actually got them only 5 weeks apart which might be a bit risky. The arguments I made were that I needed to separate business from personal spending and that I fly US Air all the time (not). The online application will deny you initially, but you just have to call in and make your case. There is a guy on FT who has 4 of them…
Great review of the best sign ups available now. The Starwood did just come back with 30k sign up bonus.
I don’t consider that to be on par with any of the personal cards mentioned. That card is way overrated. I’ll go more in depth on it soon.
Yes I would like to hear your opinion on the SPG. For me the main value I see in the card is the ability to transfer to all the important airlines and that you get a 5K bonus for every 20K transferred.
The United Chase card also gives you 5K miles for adding an Authorized User, which is a pretty easy thing to do for 5K miles.
It’s an easy 5k if you have someone you trust. Good point
So do you get the value from the Hawaiian airlines card with a transfer to Hilton???
Good eye. I just used 1.5 cents for Hawaiian miles, which is an estimate because I haven’t done a full series. I actually think that transferring to Hilton at a 1:2 rate is generally not a great idea since Hilton points are only worth around 0.4 cents (another estimate.)
Agree. I find the Citi AAdvantage cards the absolute best value out there at the moment.
I also want to mention that the Citi AA card gives you a $150 statement credit on AA purchases as well. I got it by booking a $59 flight. Free money anyone? In addition you can get 7,500 reduced mileage awards to select destinations in US and Canada
Good point
and two admiral’s club day passes for each card…
How do you get the day passes?
CHECK off United* got the united mileageplus explorer card with the 50k bonus miles the other day, the offer was somewhat hidden, i could only find the 40k bonus mile offer until miles actually hit my account for a previous flight. I clicked in one of the drop down boxes labeled get credit cards.
oh they also provide 10k in bonus miles for $25k in spending a year but that’s not too realistic unless I can pay my rent on there… hmmm landlord needs to accept paypal or some other form of credit…

GREAT SITE! Trying to get myself to Australia and New Zealand round trip in Business/First on miles next summer. I have one-way taken care of with years worth of miles saved up on Aadvantage, but now I’m trying to get my return trip on another carrier by getting sign-up bonus points. Right now I’m looking at United, as US Airways doesn’t offer one-way reward travel? And when looking for the 50,000 MileagePlus Explorer offer, I can’t find it anywhere. Does it ONLY come up if I have points already in my account? Because I don’t, I just now signed up for United’s program. Thanks for any tips!
Many people report it only shows up when you have miles in your account. If you know anyone who can transfer you Ultimate Rewards or if you sign up for United’s dining program and dine at a participating restaurant, you can get a balance quickly.
Thanks, I’ve been scrounging around for anyone who has MileagePlus that could loan me a point, but no luck thus far. So I went to the MileagePlus ‘mall’ and took that to walmart.com and bought some catfood to get a handful of points into the account. I’m just hoping they show up soon, and there’s not some 6 week turnover for points to post to the account.
After some research, all signs indicate that it WILL take several weeks for the points to show up. I’ve so far had no luck in finding anyone with an Ultimate Rewards of MileagePlus account that could loan me a couple of points. I’m trying to avoid having to buy miles directly off of united.com as that’ll set me back more than $70. I signed up for the Dining but I don’t know of a dinner I’d be taking any time soon that I’d be dropping more than $50 on. Still stuck, didn’t think it would be so hard to get a handful of points into the account! I’d love to get the US Airways Barclay card with the bonus they’re offering, but I only need one-way travel, and on US they charge you full round-trip points regardless of if you’re only going on way. There’s a rock, and there’s a hard place, and then there’s me—in the middle.
It seems that there are so many programs that let you buy a one way ticket…AA, Delta, British Airways… what about that as an option?
I don’t understand your question. And Delta doesn’t let you get oneway awards.
Has anyone had any luck (or tried) applying for the Citi Hilton HHonors Visa Signature Card and the Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve Card at the same time using the two-browser trick like others have done with the American Airlines Citi Cards? Thanks.
I can’t see why not as I did it for 2 identical Citi Hilton HHonors cards.
