Clarifying Chase 5/24 in Relation to Business Cards

Opening five credit cards within 24 months will render you ineligible for any further Chase credit cards, until that five number has dropped to, at the most, four credit cards within the last 24 months. While not published by the bank, the Chase 5/24 rule is widely accepted as truth by the miles and points community after years of shared and collected experiences.

Business credit cards do not, anecdotally, count in your Chase 5/24 total.

I Was Just Approved for the United Business Card

In January of 2018, I began a credit card fast that lasted for nine months. In other words, I stopped applying for new credit cards. At that point I had been cutoff from Chase credit cards for a long time, years, and was tired of it. I had opened a number of new credit cards, more than five in the prior two 24 months, which is where the Chase 5/24 rule gets its name from.

Sapphire Preferred Improves Offer to 60k

Chase has increased the bonus on the Sapphire Preferred Card from 50,000 Ultimate Rewards to 60,000 Ultimate Rewards without increasing the minimum spending requirement which is still $4,000 within three months of account opening. The 50k bonus was worth at least $625*, more like $1,000* if you utilize valuable airline loyalty program transfer partners. Now it's worth at least $750*, and more like $1,200* transferring to airline partners.

Last Day for 75k Bonus on the United Business Card

UPDATE: THIS OFFER HAS EXPIRED. THE CHASE UNITED EXPLORER BUSINESS CARD NOW EARNS 100,000 BONUS UNITED MILES FOR SPENDING $10,000 WITHIN THREE MONTHS OF ACCOUNT OPENING.

At some point on March 18, 2018 the biggest ever sign up bonus on the United Explorer Business Card will end. I'm guessing you'll have until the end of the day on Monday, March 18 to apply, as on united.com (as of Sunday evening, March 17) there is a banner that reads "75k BONUS MILES, 2 DAYS LEFT-- OFFER ENDS 3/18.

WOW….Get the Companion Pass Through 2019 via all Southwest Consumer Cards!

Reminder: These offers expire tomorrow, February 11. I'm not sure if that means right when the date changes--it usually doesn't--or at some point tomorrow, but if you were thinking about going for one of the Southwest cards to nail a Companion Pass for the remainder of 2019, then don't wait any longer. It's safer to apply before midnight tonight.

All three consumer Southwest Cards' benefits packages have been updated with a limited time offer that lasts for one month.

Why I Credit Card Fasted

There are numerous ways to accrue travel rewards fast, and many people will fall into more than one of these categories.

Daddy Warbucks Type A: You buy expensive flights and book expensive hotel rooms which earn exponentially more travel rewards than booking cheap flights and accommodation.
Daddy Warbucks Type B: You spend tons on credit cards organically, whether that be personal use, through your business, or both.
Manufactured Spender: You figure out ways to increase your spending for a fee that doesn't outweigh the value of the rewards you're earning.
Road Warrior: You travel for business, get to charge paid

Has 5/24 Been Extended to all Chase Cards?

It looks as though the Chase 5/24 rule has spread its umbrella to maximum reach. For a while now there were a handful of Chase cards that you could still get approved for despite having opened more than five credit cards in the last 24 months. These were the...

World of Hyatt Visa
British Airways Visa Signature Card
Iberia Visa Signature Card
IHG Rewards Club Premier Credit Card
Marriott Rewards Premier Plus Business Card

I didn't want to pull the trigger too early on this one... many bloggers already wrote about this news back in mid November.

What Credit Cards to Use for Black Friday & Cyber Monday

I hope you and yours had a fantastic Thanksgiving.

Our turkey from last year. This year my boyfriend decided to use the spatchcock method, meaning it didn't come out as picturesque (but very tasty!)

I ate way too much of both of the desserts in the cover photo and am paying the price now.

Turkey day is over and now we're all trying to decide how to spend money in order to save it.

The Five Chase Cards to Apply for if You’re a Points Omnivore

In the context of food, an omnivore eats all types of energy sources: animals and plants, and even algae, fungi, and bacteria. In the context of travel rewards, a points omnivore collects any mile or point they can to get more travel. Their motto is a dollar saved is a dollar saved.

This post is for all my points omnivores out there and particularly for those who strive to be one and are just starting to collect rewards cards.

The Five Chase Cards You Should Apply For: Combo #3

Once you’ve opened five credit cards from any bank in the last 24 months (not counting most business cards), Chase will likely deny you for all of their travel rewards credit cards.
