Capital One is spicing it up with some new changes to its rewards program. You’ll see a new transfer partner, elevated transfer bonuses and even new cancellation options to keep you feeling confident when booking flights.

New Transfer Partner

First up, Capital One is adding a brand-new transfer partner, Virgin Red. If you aren’t familiar with Virgin Red, it’s Virgin Group’s new rewards club program that launched in the United States last fall.

It allows you to earn and redeem points through flights, hotel stays, experiences and charitable donations.

Traveling with a family using points and miles means that each adult has to earn miles for more than one person, which can put a damper on your travel plans. However, while singles and empty nesters jetset around the world in their fancy first-class seats, traveling in economy has allowed me to stretch my miles to see more of the world despite doing the heavy lifting for more than one flyer.

Booking economy flights with Capital One Venture Miles has become an important part of our travel budgeting strategy since they’ve added a suite of helpful transfer partners.

The advent of the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card has people reevaluating their wallet space for premium credit cards. The American Express® Gold Card (see rates & fees) with its high earning potential in various categories has been a consistent keeper in many people’s wallets.

Expanded Lounge Access

Capital One is expanding lounge access by adding access to an additional 100+ lounges worldwide.

I’ve been a huge fan of card combinations that can really sweep you off your feet at the ability to rapidly earn tons of points without chasing a bonus. Combos like the Citi Premier® Card (Note from the editor: Citi Premier® Card is no longer available to new applicants) and the Citi® Double Cash Card, or the Chase Sapphire Reserve® and the Chase Freedom Unlimited®.
