Back by Popular Demand: Free Credit Card Consultation

MileValue is once again offering free, personalized credit card consultations. Simply fill out the form at the bottom of this post, and we will email you back with our consultation, often within hours.

Getting new credit cards is the main way to travel for free or for pennies on the dollar. But blindly getting credit cards without thinking how those cards' rewards match your travel goals is a huge mistake.

Hilton Points & Money Awards

Hilton offers the chance to combine points and money to book hotel rooms, which can be a way to stretch both your points and money further. But are these Points and Money awards a better value than free night awards?

I'm digging deep into the Hilton program because right now, not only is the Citi® Hilton HHonors™ Visa Signature® Card offering 75,000 bonus Hilton points after spending $2,000 in three months, but the Hilton HHonors Surpass Credit Card from American Express is also offering 100,000 bonus points after spending $3,000 in three months.

100% Bonus on IHG Points = 0.575 Cents

Through November 16, 2016, you can buy IHG Rewards Club points with a 100% bonus.

New United Free One Way Rules as of October 2016

Edited 12/19/16 because of this change.

United Free One Ways are now more powerful than ever. A few weeks ago, United tried to cripple free one ways, but has unintentionally made the new rule that you can add a free one way almost anywhere in the world onto your international awards.

First, a short history lesson.

On October 6, 2016, United drastically changed its stopover rules. Before you could basically book any three one way awards as a "roundtrip award," using your stopover to tack on a free one way or to make a Three One Ways award.

Buy Club Carlson Points for 0.4 Cents Until Sunday. Good Deal?

Until Sunday (October 30, 2016,) you can buy Club Carlson points and get a 75% bonus on the points purchased. (I've been getting an error after signing in through that link. On the error page, add an "o" to the end of the URL, and it should take you to the correct page.)

Club Carlson points normally cost 0.7 cent each.

Anatomy of an Award: Using Secret United Award Space, Saving $75

Last week I booked myself an award from Chicago to Buenos Aires in United economy for 30,000 United miles + $5.60. This award was very simple, but it illustrated three interesting concepts:

When will last second award space open up?
United's secret extra award space.
The trick to save $75 on last second United award bookings.

Last Second Award Space
I had been searching award space for months from Chicago to Buenos Aires, and there was never any on the inflexible date I wanted to fly.

Chicago Seminars 2016: “Live” American Airlines Award Booking with Audio

On Saturday in Chicago, I gave two presentations–one on the award chart sweet spots and the other a “Live” American Airlines Award Booking.

In this post, I'll recap the “Live” American Airlines Award Booking, including the audio of the award booking phone call.

2016 Chicago Seminar Slides: Sweet Spot Awards

On Saturday in Chicago, I gave two presentations--the first a "Live" American Airlines Award Booking and the second on the award chart sweet spots.

I will have a post later this week from the "Live" American Airlines Award Booking. Here, I wanted to share the slides from the Award Chart Sweet Spots talk for the people in attendance and those who couldn't make it.

As I mentioned in Chicago, the information for this presentation mainly comes from a post, which I update frequently: How to Book a RTW Trip in 2016.
