A Few Changes to Sapphire Reserve Benefits Come August

If you have a Chase Sapphire Reserve® Card, you should have already gotten a notice in the mail about a few changes to your benefits effective August 26, 2018. But let's get real. I'm sure many of you throw that mail away without even looking at it. Here are the changes it went over.
1.

Is Chase ending our ability to combine points?

The following news is a rumor and not confirmed, but I feel it's important to share because it's easy to protect yourself against the potential fallout.

Looks like we *might* be losing our ability to combine Ultimate Rewards between our own accounts as well as between household members.

New Sign Up Bonus Rules for Personal Southwest Cards

Chase has come out with new sign up bonus eligibility rules that make earning a  Southwest Companion Pass more complicated.

As of April 5, if you already have a personal Southwest credit card open (the Personal Plus or the Premier Plus), you are no longer eligible for the other personal Southwest credit card.

Devaluation of IHG Card Annual Free Night Benefit

Update: Chase is now responding to people complaining on Twitter that IHG credit card accounts opened from January 1, 2018 through April 5, 2018 (that's tomorrow) will be able to use their Free Night Certificate once with the old terms (meaning at ANY IHG property, not capped at a 40k point property).

55k Public Offer On United MileagePlus Explorer Card is Back for a Limited Time

The United MileagePlus Explorer card is now offering 50,000 United miles for spending $3,000 on the card within three months of opening it. This bonus is a limited time offer ending March 15, 2018.

This is significant because the United MileagePlus Explorer card is one of the first travel credit cards we recommend applying for due to the Chase 5/24 rule--the fact that Chase cuts you off to the majority of their lucrative travel credit cards once you've opened five personal credit cards from any bank--but only if its bonus is at 50k or higher.

Did You Max out Your Ritz Card’s 2017 Travel Credit?

A little over a week ago I wrote about checking in to see if you've maxed out the travel credits on your premium travel credit cards. In that post I highlighted the Chase Sapphire Reserve®, the Citi Prestige, and the Amex Platinum as the cards to pay attention to.

Have You Maxed Out the 2017 Travel Credits on Your Premium Cards?

If you applied for a Chase Sapphire Reserve® card before May 21, 2017, have an Amex Platinum (opened anytime), or have a Citi Prestige (opened anytime), then pay attention. This is an important reminder to not forget to maximize the benefits of your premium card before the year ends.

Premium travel credit cards typically come with yearly statement credits that reimburse you for travel expenses (which are defined differently depending on the issuing bank--more on that below).

Beautiful Places to Spend Bonus Points from the Hyatt Visa

The Chase Hyatt Card's bonus of 40,000 Hyatt points can be stretched pretty far if you spend them on lower tier Hyatts. That's not to say slumming it is required--there are some fantastic, high-end, well located Category 1 and 2 Hyatts around the world.

If you're into Hyatt hotels and don't have this credit card, it seems like a no-brainer to open.

Who Should Get the Ritz-Carlton Rewards Card?

Edit 10/12/17: While the public sign up offer for this card is two free Tier 1 - 4 Ritz nights, reader James33 has shared that he was able to get Chase to raise that bonus to three free night certificates by asking them to match the three night offer. Another free night is worth up to around $500, so it's definitely worth a call into Chase!

The Ritz-Carlton Rewards Card offers two free nights at Tier 1-4 properties after spending $4,000 within three months of opening it.

British Airways Visa 100k Avios Sign Up Bonus Ends Tomorrow

According to Reddit contributor epala89, this offer will end as of 9/30/17, which is tomorrow. If you were wavering on this card, now's the time! Remember, the infamous Chase 5/24 rule doesn't apply to this card. Even if you've opened more than five personal credit cards in the last two years, you are still eligible.
