Forty Hours in Business Class for $2,200

US Airways is extending its 100% bonus on purchased miles until December 7. Miles can be had for 1.88 cents. Bill wrote about this promo more fully last month.

This deal seems to run every other month, so I don't see a reason to stock up. And in general, I don't like the price of $1,938 + taxes to fly in roundtrip business class to Europe or slightly less to Asia.

But some sweet spots on US Airways' chart are incredible.

Avios 30% Transfer Bonus from Membership Rewards

Through January 14, you can transfer 1,000 Membership Rewards to 1,300 Avios. The transfer are hard-coded into the Membership Rewards transfer page, meaning you don't have to know any special codes.

All my posts about Avios are contained here: milevalue.com/category/avios.

Necessity is the mother of invention. I wanted to think of a way to get from Buenos Aires to Europe next summer with a stopover in South Africa, then from Europe to Chicago in time for the Chicago seminars.

Three Vacations on Two Awards

Just in time for my talk about Free Oneways on Sunday at the LAX Frequent Traveler University, I've figured out how to add free oneways to US Airways awards.

Until this week, I hadn't thought free oneways on US Airways awards were possible (without phone agent error), but

Tricking United.com’s Award Calendar

I generally love united.com's award calendar, the calendar that shows up at the top of your award search results that lets you know what other days have award availability.

But there are two things I hate about united.com's award calendar. The first is that it is color coded to show economy space, business/first space, or both.

Avios Awards within South Africa

I book a lot of awards to South Africa through my Award Booking Service. Most people want to hop around the country, seeing Johannesburg and Cape Town at a minimum.

Southwest, Virgin America, and Spirit Cyber Monday Deals

Today only, there are some great deals on the non-legacy carriers.

Southwest

Southwest is offering oneway flights on Christmas Eve for $100 or less oneway. This could considerably cut down on your holiday fares, if you can combine the fare with a cheap oneway home. The full list of cities and T&C are here.

Here's LAX's list of sub-$100 destinations.

Atlanta, Nashville, and Chicago stand out as steals. Here's Chicago's (MDW) list:

The discounted fares can also be purchased with fewer points.

Anatomy of an Award: First Class to Buenos Aires with American Airlines Miles

This is another post in my Anatomy of an Award series, in which I take a real award I’ve booked and break it down step-by-step to elucidate the award booking process. If you have a real award you’d like to write up in a similar post, please contact me, and you can write a guest post.

A few months ago I used 62,500 American Airlines miles and $5 to book a oneway award from Los Angeles to Buenos Aires in American Airlines Flagship First Class. This is one of the simplest awards I've ever booked.
