Around the World in Cathay, Singapore, and Lufthansa First: Radisson Martinique on Broadway
March 24, 2014
Having just landed at Newark after a First Class flight from Honolulu, I took the AirTrain to New York Penn Station, and walked the few blocks to the Radisson Martinique on Broadway.
I had two free one-night certificates at any Radisson in the United States, and I knew that a New York City hotel would probably be the most expensive place to use them.
Although we arrived at 1 PM, several hours before check in, my friend and I were quickly checked in and given the keys to a room with double beds.
How was the room?
Hawaiian Airlines 35,000 Bonus Miles Means Free Roundtrip to Hawaii
March 23, 2014
The Hawaiian Airlines® World Elite MasterCard® comes with 35,000 bonus Hawaiian Miles after spending $1,000 on the card in the first 90 days. That's enough bonus miles for a roundtrip on Hawaiian Airlines from the mainland to anywhere in Hawaii.
The six main reasons I love this offer:
Hawaiian Airlines has amazing award availability from the western United States to all the major Hawaiian islands.
Cardholders receive a discount on Hawaiian Airlines awards, so instead of paying 20k miles each way between the mainland and Hawaii, cardholders pay only 17,500 miles each way.
20k Miles to Europe All Summer Long with A Free Oneway in 10 Clicks
March 22, 2014
Here's the goal:
The goal is for a New Yorker to get a one way award to Europe in the height of summer for only 20k miles, which is a 10k mile discount plus a free oneway from Los Angeles to New York, a 12,500 mile value.
We want to pay 20,000 American Airlines miles for two flights that "should" cost 42,500 miles.
(This trick doesn't just work for New Yorkers. It works for people who live in every city that has an American Airlines flight to London.

I really like the Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express quite a bit as a rewards card.

American Airlines is Slowly Solving One of Its Biggest Weaknesses by Putting in Fully Flat Beds in Business
March 21, 2014
American Airlines has a far better award chart than rivals United and Delta, especially in premium cabins.
Unfortunately on many of its own internationally configured planes, American Airlines has angled lie flat seats in business class instead of fully flat beds.

Around the World in Cathay, Singapore, and Lufthansa First: United Flat Bed First Class from Honolulu to Newark
March 20, 2014
United flies two flights from Honolulu to the east coast on internationally-configured two-cabin planes. What is sold as First Class on these planes--and BusinessFirst if you fly internationally--is a fully flat bed in a 2-1-2 configuration across the cabin.
Flat bed first class on United flights between Honolulu and Newark and Washington-DullesThis First Class is far superior to most domestic First Class, which is served by a recliner seat with only seven more inches of legroom than coach.

The Best Value Flight Across the Atlantic Has Almost No Premium Award Space
March 19, 2014
The best value flight between the United States and Europe is American Airlines' daily 777-300ER flight from Los Angeles to London.
The 10hr40min flight east features fully flat beds in Business Class for 50k American Airlines miles each way, and American's newest First Class product for 62,500 miles each way.
Considering that Delta now charges 125k miles for roundtrip business class awards to Europe and United charges 115-140k for a roundtrip business class award and 160k-220k for a roundtrip first class award to Europe, American's prices are a steal!
For a great hard product, and west-coast-to-Europe flights, you can't
