2016 Travel Goals

Greetings from Bangkok!

With 2015 in the books, and my rundown of last year's travel here, I thought I'd share my upcoming travel plans.

I pretty much know exactly where I'll be in January, have a few options for February, see March and April pretty clearly, and then have no idea what I'll do from May on. Here's my best guess through mid-May.

Lines Represent Itineraries Not Segments

First I'm going to hop around Thailand and Singapore with my Romanian friend.

2015 Year in Review

2015 was a great year of travel for me, and hopefully for you too.

The year started in a hot tub in Chilean Patagonia, admiring a lake and snow-capped mountain in the twilight.

I tweeted this deal first from @MileValueAlerts. Follow @MileValueAlerts on Twitter and follow these directions to get a text message every time I tweet from that account.

American Airlines Releasing Six Business Class Seats on Australia Flights

American Airlines is releasing up to six Business Class award seats between Los Angeles and Sydney in its best Business Class beds. The westbound award space is within one week of departure. The eastbound space is within one month of departure.

This award space is easy to connect to from anywhere in the United States, and you can connect elsewhere in Australia or New Zealand on Qantas. These connecting flights do not add to the Business Class mileage price of 62,500 American Airlines miles each way.

Buy IHG Points for 0.6 Cents Each All the Time

IHG, the loyalty program of InterContinental, Holiday Inn, and Crowne Plaza, has frequent sales during which you can buy its points for 0.575 cents each, a 50% discount on the every day price of 1.15 cents each.

There has long been a workaround to buy points every day for 0.7 cents each. Now that workaround can buy them for 0.6 cents each.

That makes the best IHG awards, a rotating list of PointBreaks hotels that cost only 5,000 points per night, cost only $30 per night.

If You Go to Tokyo, You Have to Play This Game

I just spent two days in Tokyo, and the most fun I had was playing "Tokyo Metro The Underground Mysteries," a game that sends you around the city by Metro to solve puzzles.

It took me three hours of hopping on and off trains, heading from place to place. I would not call the game a great way to see the city--although I did see some parts of the city I wouldn't have otherwise--because you spend most of your time underground;

33% Off All Aeroflot Flights Because of Currency Glitch

The Azerbaijani Manat (yeah, I've never heard of it either) lost one third of its value last week.

For whatever reason, Aeroflot is still pricing fares at the old value. If you have a no-foreign-transaction-fee credit card, that means you can save 33% on all Aeroflot tickets.

For instance, a roundtrip from New York to Paris from July 1st to 10th costs $1,025.

The same flights are 1,071 AZN, which is only $684 at current exchange rates.

To get this deal, go to Aeroflot's Russian site and search for flights in euros or dollars.
