Hawaiian and Alaska Airlines are both offering $397 roundtrip economy flights from San Jose and Oakland, California to Maui (non-stop). The majority of available travel dates span the end of August through mid November.

October 28, 2017 is the last day Etihad will fly between Abu Dhabi and San Francisco. The new route network between Abu Dhabi and the US as of October 29 is pictured above.

This is not great news for those living on the west coast that want to fly Etihad as it decreases the overall amount of award space available.

Why SkyMiles?
People like to call Delta miles SkyPesos, me included sometimes, especially when another unannounced devaluation occurs and I'm feeling resentful. When you're shut out from the majority of Chase cards, you loose access to tons of rewards and reward earning opportunities due to what everyone calls the Chase 5/24 rule. If you've opened more than five credit cards from any bank (with the exception of most business cards) in the last 24 months, then Chase will deny you for almost all of their cards (with the exception of these).

Credit card sign up bonuses and buying cash flights tend to be the major opportunities to earn big chunks of rewards. But being a true miles and points enthusiast means taking advantage of even the little opportunities when you can, that only take a minute or two to sign up for/participate in and over time add up to big savings. Citi is offering a 10% transfer bonus from Citi ThankYou Points to Eithad Guest through July 5, 2017.

If you have ThankYou Points earned by a Citi Prestige, Citi ThankYou Premier, or Citi Chairman card, then you can transfer ThankYou points to Citi's airline partners and are therefore eligible for the transfer bonus.
Using Etihad Miles for Etihad Flights
Etihad Guest Miles aren’t very good for booking First Class on the Etihad A380.

For instance, Etihad would charge 88,048 Etihad miles + $183 to book Abu Dhabi to London in First Class on the Etihad A380. 

During the transfer

Very early on May 25 I flew from Buenos Aires, Argentina to São Paulo, Brazil.

Register here and book any JetBlue award by 11:59 PM ET on June 19 (this coming Monday) for travel between now and July 31, 2017, and you’ll get a 15% rebate on the points redeemed. You do have to have enough points upfront to pay the full price.
