Q & A Email to a Friend: Amex Cards, Eligibility, & Application Advice

Last month my good friend and CPA wrote to me with various  questions regarding the hobby. He touches on a few pertinent topics that I think are worth sharing with you guys.

My response is in normal font and his original questions are in italics. Anything I added to the email to better explain something to you guys is in blue and in parentheses.

Hey Vinnie!
Hope India was great. We're freezing our a$$es off in Maryland. The United States is miserably cold right now. Man.

Hilton Cardholders: Consider Your Options ASAP

For a while Hilton has offered all of the following co-branded credit cards:

Hilton Honors Card from American Express with no annual fee
Citi Hilton Honors Card with no annual fee
Hilton Honors Surpass Card from American Express with a $75 annual fee
Citi Hilton Honors Reserve Card with a $95 annual fee

But that's changing tomorrow. We've known for a while that Hilton dropped its partnership with Citi in favor of an exclusive co-branding partnership with Amex.

Amex Offers: Get 7k Membership Rewards via Amazon

American Express is offering a couple lucrative incentives to spend on Amazon with their Membership Reward earning cards at the moment.

Attention Delta Status Chasers: Amex Reserve Card Has a New Bonus

The Delta Reserve is a niche credit card. Many won't want to pay $450 for a card that earns solely Delta miles. But the Delta Reserve's ability to earn Delta redeemable miles is not why people should open this card.

The Delta Reserve Card from American Express comes with 10,000 Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs) for spending $3,000 on the card within three months of opening it.

At the end of May American Express introduced the Blue Business Plus Credit Card from American

Do you have an American Express credit card? If you do, are you aware that you may have the ability to share referral links with others that will earn you tons of bonus points?
Checking For Referrals
Signing in here will take you to a landing page that should show any/all offers available for you to refer.

However, that page will only give you the option to send a referral link through email. If you simply want the URL, then sign into your Amex account and scroll down below the statement balance, payment, and rewards boxes.

Redeeming Delta Miles to Alaska (& How to Earn Them Fast)

In light of the fact that the Delta co-branded American Express cards (both Gold and Platinum) have enhanced sign up offers ending soon (on July 5), a little over a week ago you saw me dive into the reasons why I think SkyMiles are worth collecting.

One of the points I mentioned was for redemption on market standard/cheap economy awards.

Under Two Weeks Left For Delta Offers: Why SkyMiles & Why Now

On July 5, 2017, the temporarily increased sign up bonus offers for the Delta Gold and Platinum cards issued by American Express will end.
Why SkyMiles?
People like to call Delta miles SkyPesos, me included sometimes, especially when another unannounced devaluation occurs and I'm feeling resentful. That doesn't mean they're worthless though...every mile has its niche, including SkyPesos. And I've put my money where my mouth is. I've held a personal Gold card in the past and currently hold the business gold card.

Delta miles are good for specific reasons.

Final Chance for Citi Hilton Cards? Offers Pulled From Citi’s Website

January 1, 2018, American Express and Hilton will begin an exclusive credit card agreement. That means only Amex Hilton cards will continue to exist and the Citi Hilton cards will not. Here's the press release if you want to read more about it.

Citi and American Express both issue Hilton co-branded credit cards.

Citi's got the...

Hilton Honors Visa Signature card
Hilton Honors Reserve card

...and Amex has got the

Hilton Honors card
Hilton Honors Surpass card.

Or at least Citi WAS issuing Hilton co-branded credit cards.
