We’re excited to announce the new Capital One Venture X Rewards Card. We’ll keep this intro brief as we dive into the details and our take on this new travel rewards card.

Capital One Venture X Rewards Card Overview

The Capital One Venture X Rewards Card is Capital One’s new premium credit card.

As awesome as using points and miles are to book flights, sometimes you have to pay cash for your flights. Whether you found a great deal on airfare, or there just isn’t award availability and you’re absolutely itching to take a trip, sometimes paying for flights just works better. When you’re looking to buy a flight, you should be using the best credit card to buy a flight.

Even when you are booking an award flight, there are inevitable taxes and fees that you just can’t avoid.

But that’s easier said than done.

With a wallet full of credit cards, it's best practice to commonly assess your credit card portfolio to ensure that the benefits you receive from the cards outweigh the annual fees that you pay. If not, it's time to close that card or cards in most cases.

Although a large welcome bonus is as good a reason to sign up for a new credit card as any, it doesn’t hurt to make note of a card’s other benefits before clicking “Submit” on an application page.

You can get free checked bags with co-branded airline cards, free annual night certificates with hotel cards and lounge access with premium cards.

If I had to choose just one card to use for all of my points earnings, I am fairly confident that I would choose the American Express® Gold Card. There’s a lot of compelling reasons why I’d choose the Amex Gold over others.

This workhorse has some of the best earning rates on common spending categories, along with good usable credits.

Well, Chase surprised us again! And it was a good surprise too! First they came out with an overhaul of the Chase Freedom and Chase Freedom Unlimited® cards and the addition of a brand new card, Chase Freedom Flex℠.

And finally (or maybe not finally, and more good changes are in the works), Chase changed the welcome bonus on the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® Credit Card.

Bonus Spending
Many cards offer bonus points for “airfare” or “travel” purchases.

An interesting post on Reddit caught my eye called "The Economics of Churning: who pays for the rewards?"

("Churning" is the milesphere's term for opening cards, getting their bonuses, closing the cards, and repeating.)

While I don't agree with the post's conclusions about who pays for rewards, it does present a lot of interesting information for anyone who wants to understand the business of credit cards a little bit better.
