Let’s talk about Avios.

Three airlines—Aer Lingus, British Airways and Iberia—use this rewards currency, yet they’re separate award programs. Same, same, but different. And, because the programs are different, they also use their own award charts and follow their own rules.

Although there are three loyalty programs that use Avios, in this article, we’ll focus on two: British Airways Executive Club and Iberia Plus.

Through October 1 you’ll earn 40% bonus points when transferring Membership Rewards to either British Airways, Iberia, or Aer Lingus Avios.

That means 1,000 Membership Rewards = 1,400 Avios.

This deal comes around once a year, presenting an excellent opportunity to save points on awards in and between various parts of the world.

Through December 31, 2018, you can book a one-way in Iberia economy to Madrid from either New York, Chicago, or Boston for 8,500 Iberia Avios + $75 to $85 out of pocket, or a roundtrip between those US cities and the land of jamón and tapas for 17,000 Avios + $185 to $200 out of pocket. That's 50% off the standard price.

Iberia is running an insane promotional offer right now that ends today, so act fast if you want to take advantage! My apologies for getting this news up late.

Through April 11, Iberia Avios awards are being priced with a 25% discount in celebration of the company's 25th anniversary. The discounted price applies to travel dates now through June 15, 2017 as well as October 1 through December 15, 2017, flying any routes on Iberia, Iberia Express, and Iberia Regional Air Nostrum planes.

The only points that transfer directly to Iberia are Membership Rewards, but at the crappy rate of 250:200.
