The bonuses are in addition to what you'd already be earning by shopping through the portal. Shopping portals allow you to earn miles by making your normal online purchases through your favorite online stores. Just by starting at the loyalty program’s portal and using its link to your favorite online retailer, you can get extra miles for your purchases.

With each back to school promotion, the more you spend, the higher your return is.

AA.com has been slowly increasing the number of partners bookable online. You can now search and book on aa.com:

Alaska Airlines
American Airlines
airberlin
British Airways
Finnair
Hawaiian Airlines
Iberia
Qantas
Royal Jordanian

Many other partners are not bookable on aa.com. They must be searched on ba.com or other places and booked by calling in.

American Airlines does collect fuel surcharges on Iberia flights, but they are much smaller than fuel surcharges on British Airways flights.

It's really easy right now to earn a lot of American Airlines miles fast.

Yesterday I received the following email from Barclays about a promotion on my Barclaycard AAdvantage Red World Elite Mastercard...

You can earn 10,000 American Airlines miles for meeting a $2,250 spending requirement over the months of May, June, and July. That's kind of like earning 5x on everyday spending (12,250 miles earned total / $2,250 = 5.44)

Granted, it's 5x on American Airlines miles which we value a little lower than typical legacy carrier miles due to lack of SAAver level award space.
