Huge SPG to Aeroplan Transfer Bonus Means Roundtrip To Europe Year Round for 40k Points or 80k Points in First Class

Right now 40k Starpoints plus taxes will get you a roundtrip economy class trip to Europe, 65k Starpoints will get you a roundtrip Business Class ticket, and 80k will get you a roundtrip First Class ticket.

Starpoints always transfer to dozens of airlines at a rate of 20k Starpoints to 25k miles.

Free First Class 2014: Basics of Redeeming Singapore, Aeroplan, Lufthansa, Avianca, ANA, Flying Blue, and Korean Miles

This is the twentieth post in a monthlong series that started here. Each post will take about two minutes to read and may include an action item that takes the reader another two minutes to complete. I am writing this for an audience of people who know nothing about frequent flyer miles, and my goal is that by the end, you know enough to fly for free anywhere you want to go.

I’ve covered how to earn miles and the redemption options for miles.

Air Canada Aeroplan miles are roughly line with other award charts for travel to Central and South America, though a bit better value than United miles for awards to Southern South America (e.g. Brazil and Argentina).

Air Canada charges 60,000 miles (30k oneway) for roundtrip business class awards to Central & Northern South America and 85,000 miles (42.5k oneway) for first class awards.

After Aeroplan’s summer 2013 devaluation, its award chart for travel to Africa and the Middle East (especially) became expensive relative to other carriers.

Aeroplan Roundtrip Award Chart from US/Canada

Sadly, United’s recent devaluation and Delta’s double devaluation brought Air Canada Aeroplan miles in line with the likes of United and Delta.

American's chart is decently priced for business class travel to the Middle East and Indian Subcontinent.

Europe is an absolute award chart bargain compared to Aeroplan's mileage requirement for Asian travel. After Aeroplan's summer 2013 devaluation, its award chart for travel to Asia became very expensive relative to other carriers.

Sadly, United’s recent devaluation and Delta’s unprecedented double devaluation brought Air Canada Aeroplan miles in line with the likes of United and Delta.

With United's recent devaluation and Delta's unprecedented double devaluation, Air Canada Aeroplan miles quietly became one of the best ways to fly to Europe in business class.

Air Canada's website displays Star Alliance partners (like LOT and Singapore) that United.com lacks, and their award chart is reasonable relative to other carriers.

Air Canada only charges 90,000 Aeroplan miles roundtrip (45k oneway) for travel to Europe Zone 1 which represents quite a few countries.

Business Class to Europe 45k Miles Each Way with Aeroplan One Way Awards

Aeroplan, the loyalty program of Air Canada, now offers one way awards to Europe for only 45k miles each way in flat bed business class with no fuel surcharges!

This is an incredible deal that will last for bookings made through the end of 2014 for flights into late 2015!

It is extremely easy to earn Aeroplan miles, since the program is a 1:1 transfer partner of American Express Membership Rewards and SPG Starpoints.

Beware Phantom “Non-Space” on United.com or How to Get the Secret Dreamliner Space

A few months ago, Bill wrote a great piece titled Beware Phantom Award Availability at United.com. It's true that United.com occasionally lists Saver award space that just doesn't exist and that you can't book online or by phone.

I've just come across the opposite: phantom non-award space.
