Credit card sign up bonuses and buying cash flights tend to be the major opportunities to earn big chunks of rewards. But being a true miles and points enthusiast means taking advantage of even the little opportunities when you can, that only take a minute or two to sign up for/participate in and over time add up to big savings. Every penny–or mile–counts.

Here are three ways you can easily boost your balances this week. Both are also useful if you’re looking for a way to refresh the lifespan of miles that are on the verge of expiration.

  1. Buy magazines through the Alaska Airlines Shopping Portal and earn 50 bonus Alaska miles per dollar spent (today only!)
  2. Shop through United’s Shopping Portal for a bonus as large as 1,500 United miles on top of whatever the bonus is from the retailer (through June 23)
  3. Connect your social media accounts to your Marriott Rewards account and interact when prompted for varied amounts of bonus points (no known expiration)

Alaska Miles

Today only you can earn 50 Alaska miles per dollar spent on magazines through the Alaska shopping portal at

If you want magazines and value them at what they’re priced on, then this is an opportunity to earn lots of free bonus Alaska miles. If you don’t want magazines, consider this an opportunity to buy Alaska miles for just under two cents each (assuming you buy the magazines on a card that will also earn you rewards for every dollar spent).

If your intention is to buy Alaska miles and not magazines, then you should first log in to your Alaska Mileage Plan account here because through July 1, 2017, Alaska has a targeted offer of 20 to 50% tiered bonuses on miles purchases.

If you are targeted, with a 50% bonus you’d pay 1.97 cents per mile. That’s a tiny bit cheaper than buying magazines for the bonus miles, but buying magazines doesn’t require you to spend $1,478.13 (50k miles minimum purchase) to get that cost per mile.

United Miles

By shopping through the United shopping portal, you’ll not only earn the regular bonus offered by the retailer (like 12 miles per dollar on New Balance purchases, or 15 miles per dollar on purchases), but United is stacking an extra bonus of 500 miles for spending $150 or 1,500 miles for spending $350.

Your purchase doesn’t have to be one transaction of $150 or $350, as long as you meet the spending requirement within the promotional period (through June 23) the bonus is triggered.

Obviously, don’t shop if you don’t have a need, but check the list of retailers to see if it lines up with already planned purchases.

And don’t forget to compare shopping portal opportunities on a site like evreward to assure you’re maximizing your purchase.

Marriott Rewards

Connect your Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram account to your Marriott Rewards account and you’ll earn 50 points for each account.

Yes, that’s only 150 Marriott Rewards, which is kind of measly. But by connecting your accounts and following Marriott Rewards on each platform, you’ll see opportunities over time to interact with Marriott, which will earn more points directly deposited into your account (like tweeting the results of this quick quiz).

Even if you don’t have a use for Marriott points, you can convert Marriott to SPG at a rate of 3:1.

Bottom Line

Don’t forsake the little opportunities! They add up. Some of these offers/promotions expire very soon so act now.
