I’m excited to announce a new writer has joined the MileValue team: Bill Wilkes.
Bill was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. The son of an American Airlines pilot, he grew up with airplanes being his home away from home. He currently works for the baseball team in Baltimore, MD assisting with Major League rules interpretation and administration. Some of his favorite destinations to travel (with miles, of course) are Spain, Argentina, and Hawaii. He hopes to visit all seven continents before he turns 30.
Bill joined the MileValue team to help with the Forum Buzz series. He will also post on hotel point valuations and travel deals.
A few months ago, I had the idea to start the Forum Buzz series. The forums are full of so much useful information being compiled by thousands of informed enthusiasts, so they are an awesome place to learn from. But they are also overwhelming, make some info unnecessarily hard to piece together, and are sometimes hostile to newbies.
The idea behind Forum Buzz was to digest the biggest topics on the forums, add original research where necessary, and present information in a readable post instead of scattered through dozens of posts.
I knew that Forum Buzz posts would be time consuming and would take me away from some of the other types of post I prefer like posts on redemptions or valuing credit card sign ups. For that reason, I went looking for apoints enthusiast to help me with the series.
Bill has been writing for MileValue for over a month. I’ve been working closely with him on all aspects of his posts: topic selection, presentation style, how I value things, and more. And you’ve been enjoying the product of that work–I haven’t written a single Forum Buzz post.
Bill will continue to handle Forum Buzz posts, while also helping me begin to value hotel points, which are conspicuously absent from the Mile Value Leaderboard. You’ll know whether a post is written by me (MileValue), Bill (Bill), or Tahsir (Bengali Miles Guru) based on the signature at the top of the post under the title.
The vast majority of posts, 1+ per day will continue to be written by me. Bill is not replacing me; he is in addition to me.
Bill’s joining the team has made MileValue a better source for miles junkies, and his presence will continue to strengthen the team, so I hope everyone will give him a hearty welcome.
And anyone who will be at the LAX Frequent Traveler University at the end of the month will have a chance to meet Bill and Tahsir and hear me speak!

Welcome, Bill, and nice job with the Forum Buzz posts. I read FlyerTalk, but I do find it frustrating and time-consuming to follow threads with hundreds or thousands of posts to try to find the useful new nugget of information. I’ll be watching your work with interest.
Welcome Bill! We look forward to your posts! Thank you in advance for your contributions to this site!
Is there a separate link for Forum Buzz?
No, the posts appear in the normal order. Their titles start “Forum Buzz:” When we tag them correctly, they end up categorized here –> https://milevalu.wpengine.com/category/forum-buzz/
Congrats on branching out and getting more people to add original content to your blog. Sounds like things are expanding.
