If you’re new to milevalue, welcome! If you’re a newbie in the points game, you may want to catch up with my in-progress series for beginners called Free First Class Next Month. It is a series of two-minute posts that will take you from where you are to a nascent miles expert in one month.
If you’re already pretty well-versed, you might want to check out my systematic valuation series on Avios, AAdvantage, Rapid Rewards, and my future ones on United, Delta, US Airways, Hawaiian, Ultimate Rewards, Membership Rewards, and others. Or some of the incredible resources here like the milevalue calculator, lists of all possible Avios redemptions from LAX and NYC, or the complete list of international gateway cities in the AAdvantage program.
On to the giveaway. It’s Friday night, and I’m feeling generous, so I’m giving away a $66 virtual American Airlines gift card. I snagged this gift card for free last year with my American Express Platinum card (along with two for $67 each), and I’ll put the terms and conditions below, so you know how you can use it.
There are a few ways to enter, and entry will close at 11:59 PM PT on Sunday. Entry methods:
#1- Comment on this post with how you would use the gift card or any suggestion for something you’d like to see milevalue cover.
#2- Follow me on twitter @milevalue
#3- Tweet a link to a milevalue post with the hashtag #milevalue. You receive two entries for entering in this way.
#4- Post a link to a milevalue post you find particularly useful on your website. You receive two entries for entering in this way.
You can enter one or multiple ways. Enter all four ways and receive six entries. On Sunday night, I’ll use a random number generator to figure out the winner and will contact the winner to collect the prize.

Pick me! Pick me! I need to win so I can visit Noah. 🙂
I’d put this gift card towards my next trip home to visit my parents! I’m a graduate student, and flights are the biggest thing in my budget besides my rent…
I would use the GC to put towards a flight for my GF parents, to fly up to see us, versus the usual other way around.
More about MRs and is there a site that’s helpful, especially since I’m out of BNA?
There’s a new blog on MR. Check it out at mileagerunning.com.
Thanks!
I’d use it to fly to visit family in NC!
I would use this giftcard to help pay for my trip to the Caribbean this fall as AA has typically good coverage to most islands from JFK.
I loved the list of redemption from NYC for Avios. Maybe you could profile some of the best awards in general from major cities like NYC, LAX, etc.. that offer the most value based on average ticket price (i.e. I’d guess LAX-PPT would be a good one, NYC-LHR not so much)
I value an award ticket at the lesser of what it would cost to buy and my subjective value. For the very expensive paid itineraries, subjective value is almost always less. So I worry about maximizing subjective value not average ticket price. So my list would be highly subjective.
I am enjoying your blog and try to read daily. If I win, I will use toward ticket forr my son to fly to Hawaii (where I live) to visit me. Mahalo!
To visit my husbands father who will be 97 in dec.
We would use it for a flight from lax to fll
I would put it towards future flights on AA.
I’d love to see a post on best ways to do a Hawaii/japan trip using 50k aa miles, and best miles options for travel us to India -thanks!
I am flying to Brazil for a wedding and I can use an AA gift card to save some money.
I would use the card for a trip from ORD to NYC! More examples of international routing and in-depth analysis of the best use of different FFPs for different destination areas would be highly appreciated!
I would use this gift card for a surprise trip for my fiancee after his grad school summer break. He’s working 2 jobs while going to school and he is sooo stressed out. So I would love to surprise him with a trip to Puerto Rico. Thanks for an awesome giveaway!

I’d like to be entered too and would use the card when I traveled next, and also I’d like to know how many credit cards per year someone with very good credit can expect to be able to get?

I would love to read about the best way to use miles for smaller trips rather than big blowouts that many of us rarely have the opportunity to go on (not that we wouldn’t love to!).
I’d use the card to visit friends in Tampa. It’s a long way from Seattle, and much better weather in February.
