The Sapphire Reserve Card has been added to Chase’s Refer-a-Friend Program. For every person that applies and is approved through your personal referral link, you’ll earn 10,000 Ultimate Rewards. The maximum bonus points you can earn through Sapphire Reserve referrals per year is 50,000.

The Referral Offer

The sign up offer for the Chase Sapphire Reserve® through Refer-a-Friend is the same as the public offer: 50,000 Ultimate Rewards for spending $4,000 on the card within three months of account opening. That is what your friend will earn. Your bonus 10,000 Ultimate Rewards should post within 8 weeks of their approval.

Ways to Refer Friends

The key to receiving the referral bonus is by getting your friend to sign up through your link. You can share this link with them a variety of ways…all will accomplish the same goal.

Copying and Pasting Your Unique Link

Once you login to Refer-a-friend by inputting the last four digits of your Sapphire Reserve, last name, and zip code, you’ll be given a referral link you can copy to your clipboard and paste anywhere you might normally communicate with friends online.

The referral link show in these screenshots is not my own as I do not have a Sapphire Reserve Card (shut out by 5/24). If you want to help my friend earn bonus points, sign up through his link!

Email

Copying and pasting your unique link is probably the easiest way of sharing your referral link, but you can also get Chase to send your friends an email with your link if you prefer. I have read that there is sometimes a delay in receipt of such emails however.

Twitter

You can also choose to share your referral link through Twitter. Clicking the Twitter icon will take you to your Twitter account and automatically generate a tweet that includes your referral link (the highlighted section below).

Facebook

Typically Refer-a-Friend will also generate a Facebook post for you to share if you prefer to get your friends to apply through that platform. For some reason, it’s not showing that as an option right now (at least for my friend who’s account I used for these screenshots).

Form 1099-MISC?

The following is from the terms on the Sapphire Reserve’s Refer-a-Friend page…

Your participation in this program may result in the receipt of taxable income from Chase and we may be required to send to you, and file with the IRS, a Form 1099-MISC (miscellaneous income). You are responsible for any tax liability, including disclosure requirements, related to participating in this program. Please consult your tax advisor if you have any questions about your personal tax situation.

So that’s technically–possibly–a thing. I wouldn’t expect a Form 1099-MISC though.

Share Yours in the Comments

Feel free to leave your email or actual referral link in the comments. If you eventually hit the max of 50k this year, please reply to your own original comment so others know to apply using another link.

Don’t worry if your comment doesn’t publish immediately–you don’t need to comment again. If it’s your first time commenting on a MileValue post, I will have to approve the comment before it’s published for everyone to see.

Bottom Line

Since enough time has passed since the Chase Sapphire Reserve® was released, the card is now a part of the Refer-a-Friend program. Get your friends and family to apply through your unique link and you’ll earn 10k Ultimate Rewards for each–up to 50,000 a year. Note that they have to actually be approved in order for you to receive the bonus, and the Chase 5/24 rule still applies like usual (as well as Chase’s new one Sapphire-branded card per customer rule).

Hat tip Mommy Points

Earn 60,000 bonus points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.

With a bonus of 60,000 points after $4,000 spend in the first 3 months, 5x points on travel booked through the Chase Travel Portal and 3x points on restaurants, streaming services, and online groceries (excluding Target, Walmart, and wholesale clubs), this card truly cannot be beat for getting started!
