Right now the Delta Gold and Platinum cards both have limited time offers that expire June 30 (Tuesday).
The Platinum Delta card offers 60,000 bonus SkyMiles and 10,000 MQMs, Delta’s status counting miles, after spending $2,000 in the first three months.
The personal and business versions of the Gold Delta card each offer 50,000 bonus SkyMiles after spending $2,000 in the first three months.

Offer Valuation
Delta miles are the least valuable major miles because of an expensive award chart, surcharges on several foreign partners, no stopovers allowed, and limited availability on Delta flights. I value them at about 1.2 cents each.
That makes the Gold offer worth $650 to me, $600 for the 50k miles and $50 for the statement credit.
The Platinum offer is worth $625 plus the value of 10,000 MQM to you. The 60k bonus miles are worth $720 to me, the $100 statement credit is worth $100, and the annual fee is negative $195. How much are 10,000 MQM worth?
To me, they’re worth nothing because I am not going for Delta status. For you, that depends on how much you value the next step of Delta status and whether the 10,000 MQM will get you there. I think a reasonable value could be 2-3 cents per MQM, making 10,000 MQM worth $200-$300 if you want status.
Are You Eligible for the Bonus?
You can only get Delta personal card bonuses once per lifetime, so if you’ve ever had the personal Gold or personal Platinum, you cannot get that card again with a new bonus.
You CAN get the business Gold card bonus even if you’ve gotten it before as long as the old account has been closed at least 12 months.
Having had one of these three cards does NOT affect your eligibility to get another of the three, and you can get the personal Gold and business Gold on the same day.
Check out Issuing Bank Rules for Approvals and New Bonuses for more information.
Best Uses of SkyMiles
SkyMiles are routinely trashed, mostly by people who don’t book many awards and just heard someone else say SkyMiles aren’t very valuable. I’ve booked a lot of awards with SkyMiles through my Award Booking Service, so I can say that they are fantastic to several places.
They are fantastic to Australia on partner Virgin Australia.
They are fantastic to Europe on partner Alitalia.
They are fantastic to Buenos Aires (and the rest of South America) on partner AeroMexico.
Now that you can book Delta awards one way, 50,000 or 60,000 miles are even more valuable because that’s enough or almost enough for:
- One way in Business Class to Europe or Southern South America (62.5k)
- Roundtrip in economy to Europe or Southern South America (60k)
- One way in economy to Australia (50k)
- Roundtrip to Hawaii (45k)
Bottom Line
Delta’s limited time offers on its Gold and Platinum cards is worth checking out even if SkyMiles are the least valuable major miles. Fifty or sixty thousand bonus miles are nothing to sneeze at.
The Gold card is perfect to pick up 50,000 bonus miles after $2,000 in spending.
The Platinum card is perfect if you want 60,000 bonus miles plus 10,000 status miles.
Just getting started in the world of points and miles? The Chase Sapphire Preferred is the best card for you to start with.
With a bonus of 60,000 points after $4,000 spend in the first 3 months, 5x points on travel booked through the Chase Travel Portal and 3x points on restaurants, streaming services, and online groceries (excluding Target, Walmart, and wholesale clubs), this card truly cannot be beat for getting started!

Scott, I recently got AmEX biz GOLD with 50K bonus. So, if I apply for Biz Platinum, then will I get 60K bonus? I don’t want to apply and get the card if I’m not going to get any bonus miles.
