The First Commercial Flight to Cuba Takes Off Tomorrow

On August 31, 2016 the first regularly scheduled flight in over 50 years will take off from the United States headed to Cuba. The inaugural flight will be on JetBlue, and will depart from Fort Lauderdale and arrive to Santa Clara, Cuba.
You've probably seen a lot of information in the news over the last couple of years about the United States' improving relationship with Cuba.
United States and Cuba Officially Agree to Resume Scheduled Air Service

Great news:
The United States has officially signed an agreement with Cuba to re-establish scheduled air services between the two countries.
Starting Tuesday, U.S. carriers will have 15 days to submit applications to the Department of Transportation for routes they'd like to fly between the U.S. and Cuba in what's sure to be a fierce bidding war.
What's the time table?
This agreement will mean the potential for 110 daily round-trip flights in and out of Cuba.
America and Cuba Reach Deal to Allow Regular Flights

According to the Washington Post, Cuba and the United States have reached a deal to allow regular passenger flights between the two countries. However, you can't head online and book just yet.
The deal does not mean that Americans will be able to begin booking travel to Cuba immediately. But it would set in motion the safety inspections and other procedures required by the Federal Aviation Administration when such an agreement is reached. Experts say it will probably be three to six months before U.S.

Anatomy of an Award: Flights to Cuba with Miles

I just booked myself a trip to Cuba with miles. One direction I am flying on a single award from the United States to Cuba. On the return, I am flying two awards: Cuba to Colombia and Colombia to the United States.
I used American Airlines, Asiana, and Lufthansa miles, all of which are easily available to Americans.
