Starting tomorrow, all personal American Express Platinum Cards (“regular”, Mercedes-Benz, Ameriprise, etc) will earn 5x Membership Rewards per dollar spent on airlines and spent at the AMEX travel portal.

Starting tomorrow, the Business Platinum Card will earn 1.5x Membership Rewards per dollar on all purchases over $5,000.

These are positive changes, and there are no offsetting negative changes. However, these cards still aren’t competitive with the Chase Sapphire Reserve unless you use Amex Centurion Lounges frequently when you travel in the United States.
