Icelandair is offering roundtrip economy flights from cities on the east coast to Reykjavik for as low as $313. The majority of available travel dates span the end of August through December.

Available City Pairs
You’ll find the majority of cheap fares between New York, Newark, Boston, Washington, D.C and Reykjavik, but there are also some slightly more expensive fares between Chicago and Reykjavik.
When are the cheap fares?
The easiest way to see the cheap fares is on Google Flights. Prices start as low as $313 (from Boston, New York, Newark, and Washington, D.C.) and climb to around $368 for the cheapest from Chicago. Available dates for the low price span from the end of August through early December.
I brought up this calendar of roundtrip prices between New York and Reykjavik on Google Flights.
You can’t purchase tickets directly on Google Flights, but after choosing an outbound and return flight you will be given links to follow to buy on the airline’s website (or, in some circumstances, for cheaper through sites like Expedia–just know that you risk worse customer service in the event you need to cancel or make a change when you buy through one of those online travel agencies).
You’ll probably see a few cheaper fares scattered in the results offered by WOW Air. Just beware of significant fees for baggage and factor that into the cost. The Icelandair fares include a checked bag for free.
Mileage Earning
Icelandair isn’t a part of an alliance, but it is partners with Alaska Airlines, which you’re probably best off crediting redeemable miles/elite credits to. The fare class is U, which I found on ITA Matrix.
Flying from New York to Reykjavik roundtrip, for example, you’d earn 1,296 Alaska miles (25% of the distance flown, 5,186 miles). Not much, but I can’t imagine anyone having much of a use for Icelandair points…perhaps if you fly to Iceland often. The same New York to Reykjavik roundtrip would earn 4,200 Icelandair Saga points.
Baggage Allowance
The Icelandair fare is classified as Economy Class Special (read:super discount), but you do still get a free personal item, free carry on, and one free checked bag up to 50 pounds included in the ticket price.

Sara, Thanks so much for this deal info. I booked a round trip flight for 2 of us from Boston To Reykjavik on Oct. 14 to Oct 19. If anyone has suggestions regarding itinerary that would be very appreciated.
So glad to hear it! I haven’t been to Iceland yet but it’s at the top of my list. Enjoy!
Flying to Iceland October 14. I was offered to bid on an upgrade in either Economy comfort or Saga Class. Wondering if you know if this is worth doing?
