CitiBusiness/AAdvantage Platinum Select World MasterCard

I value American Airlines miles at 1.4 cents each, so a 70,000 bonus is worth almost $1,000 to me. The card also comes with valuable perks like a free checked bag on domestic American Airlines flights for the cardholder and four others, as well as a 10% rebate of redeemed miles each year (up to 10,000 miles per year). For no annual fee the first year and $99 after that, it’s a great offer. Read all the details here.

Citi ThankYou Premier

ThankYou points are worth, at the very least, 1.25 cents each toward travel. That makes the 60,000 point bonus worth at least $750. If you transfer ThankYou Points to an airline loyalty program partner, especially for redemption on international and/or premium cabin awards, you can get much more value than 1.25 cents each. I value ThankYou Points at 1.8 cents each when used this way, meaning the 60k bonus would be worth over $1,000.

The ThankYou Premier comes with impressively lucrative category bonuses for card that costs only $99 a year (and nothing the first year): 3 ThankYou Points per dollar spent on travel and gas purchases, and 2 ThankYou Points per dollar spent at restaurants and on entertainment purchases.

Bottom Line

To put things in perspective…

  • 70k American Airlines miles is more than enough for a roundtrip in Business Class to Canada, Alaska, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, or Manaus (Brazil). It’s enough for a roundtrip in economy to almost anywhere in the world served by American or other oneworld carriers.
  • 60k ThankYou Points is enough points for $750 in cash toward flights, or much more when transferred to airline loyalty programs for outsized value (like a one-way Business Class ticket to southern South America).

Apply for the CitiBusiness AAdvantage Platinum Select World  MasterCard before the end of the day today, October 9, if you want its soon to expire 70,000 American Airlines miles bonus for $4k in spending. Apply for the Citi ThankYou Premier Card by Thursday, October 11, if you want its soon to expire 60,000 ThankYou Points bonus for $4k in spending.
