Until January 14, 2014, you can buy Frontier EarlyReturns miles from points.com with up to a 50% bonus on the miles you buy. Through this promotion, you can buy 37,500 Frontier miles, almost enough for two roundtrips anywhere in the mainland US and Alaska for $672 or about 1.79 cents each.

Smaller miles purchases receive smaller bonuses, which means each mile purchased is more expensive.

I wouldn’t speculatively pad my Frontier balance at even the 1.79 cents per mile price, but it can be an excellent deal if you have a valuable award in mind.

Yesterday, I ran down the gems on the Frontier chart. Frontier charges only 10k miles each way for Standard awards within the US, and Frontier flies to Anchorage and Fairbanks, Alaska.

Buying miles for 1.79 cents each would mean $181.50 for a one way award within the US after all taxes and fees or $363 for a roundtrip. To Alaska, that’s a steal. Within the continental US, it’s probably not a great deal.

A Better Way to Get 40,000 Frontier Miles

While buying miles at this price can be a nice way for a family to pad its Frontier balance, the first move to bolster a Frontier balance is to get the The Frontier Airlines World MasterCard® with 40,000 bonus miles after spending $500 in the first 90 days.

At 1.79 cents per mile–the price of miles during the current promotion–a 40,000 mile bonus is worth about $720.
