Uber is my favorite way to get around. I no longer call or flag down taxis. On a recent trip to San Francisco and Los Angeles, I didn’t rent a car, using Uber to get around instead.

Uber is the world’s best taxi service because it has clean, courteous drivers and the easiest ride-ordering app imaginable. Tap, tap, tap, and a car whose progress you can track towards you is on its way.

American Express is currently running a promotion with Uber during which new and existing Uber customers can get a $10 American Express statement credit. Sync an American Express card to Twitter and use it to pay for an Uber ride in 2014 to get the $10 credit.

This $10 credit for new or existing users is in addition to the massive $30 in free credit to new users who sign up through a referral link. (Sign up with mine and I’ll also get one free ride up to $30. Leave your referral link in the comments if you’d like.)

Here’s how to get the $10 credit:

  1. Sync your American Express card to your Twitter profile.
  2. Send a tweet with hashtag #AmexUber.
  3. You will receive the following tweet from @AmexOffers: Thx for enrolling in #AmexUber offer. Spend w/connected Card & receive credit. Terms: . If you don’t get this tweet, you are not enrolled. If you do get this tweet, you’re enrolled immediately.

If you don’t have Twitter (why not? just get it for American Express promos like this), you may also be offered the same $10 statement credit under the “Amex Offers For You” tab inside your American Express online account.

More About Uber

Uber is an app on your smart phone on which you request a taxi or private car to pick you up.

The in-app map shows you nearby cars and tells you how long you’ll have to wait. You can input your destination and get an estimated price.

Once you get dropped off, you rate your driver. Bad drivers are fired, so you are extremely likely to get a good driver. And if you don’t, customer service is extremely responsive.

Let’s list the ways Uber is better than your local cab company:

  1. Easier and faster to order a cab. No calling in and waiting on hold.
  2. More accurate timetable given for pick up. I hate when the taxi operator tells me she’s sending the “next available” cab. How long will that be?
  3. You can get an estimate of the price in advance.
  4. Uber drivers are more likely to drive a clean, not smelly car in my experience.
  5. Your credit card is saved on file, and you can set your tip percentage on uber.com. No need to carry any cash.

Terms and Conditions of $10 Credit:

See uber.com for information on how to sign up for an Uber account. If you are enrolled in American Express’ program with Uber, you do not earn additional Membership Rewards® points on the portion of the fare covered by the $10 statement credit. Offer not available for redemption when you select to “Use Points” in the Uber app to redeem points for a ride.
